I was initially gonna make a thread on it when they first had that smiling woman at the baseball game but I thought it was just gonna be a one off thing then today saw that they really doubled down on the stunt and added them to an nfl game too along with the twitter like button thing. Brings me back to the marketing stunts for Cloverfield back in the day. It's dope to see simple but effective tactics like this at work.

Been waiting for a thread about this movie!!

I saw that first trailer and thought it was gonna be some real real bad s*** like Truth or Dare (2018) and it looked so similar to that.

But it’s actually meant to be pretty damn good

Same haha it looked really generic in the trailer but it's been getting pretty good reviews so far. The score on RT has risen up to 84% too which is pretty high for a horror film these days. Might be worth checking out, the public stunts have sold me already lol

Super surprised at the great reviews it's getting

Looked like one of those horror films that show the best parts in the trailer, and then the actual film ends up being dumb af

Yeah like you said that’s high for a horror. And SUPER high for a movie where the people smile like that could easily be terrible (like truth or dare) but this sounds like it’s solid asf.

We got original horror movies Barbarian, Smile, Pearl all in the same month. and all super well reviewed and received

That and Barbarian going crazy rn it's been a great year for horror with those and Pearl plus Halloween Ends and Bones and All maybe being Oscar worthy.

Horror is having another great year!

Imagine actually watching a whole trailer lol I watch the first 10 to 20 sec and that’s enough if the trailer don’t do within that time I don’t watch it

Just realized that there isn’t actually a Smile thread

    This could be it @op

I saw it 2 nights ago and it actually surprised me quite a bit. While not great I had bottom of the barrel expectations and they were exceeded. Some good jump scares and the themes it explored were done solidly. It’s a little derivative (can’t say from what or else it would kind of spoil the movie) and the acting isn’t the best aside from the lead. Not the best horror of the year but very surprising in just how good it actually is.

I mean I get what you mean, I don't like watching trailers either

But that wasn't my point, im saying that a lot of horror films end up being dumb as hell after having good trailers

And it doesn't help that they will put the best part in the trailers and then the trailer is pasted all over YouTube and social media ads.
So by the time the movie comes out, the audience knows the jumpscares because the movie studio plastered them everywhere

And sometimes it's hard to avoid certain trailers when they are in theaters or are like 5 seconds long on tv

Seems like an official one has been made now so I can delete this one, was mostly for the campaign anyway.

But good to hear you enjoyed the film man it does seem to be exceeding expectations as you said. Excited to check it out soon man great year for horror
