  • In theory, how would he really be able to tell?

You think he has an assistant that exclusively gets paid to let him know when he's interacting with a white person?

How would that work, does he use a secret catchphrase?

I don't even think most Black people would say the n word around Stevie, unless they were very good friends

im thinking the nigga not "n1gger"

and theres a disconnect already with some uk and african black people with the term and distinction, dont think an elder black man that is blind doesnt care or get it like that since he literally cant tell like that, on top of a generational thing

i dont think most niggas around his age are saying nigga like that if at all, like most more elder black people

but yeah it'd be kinda out of pocket to say it to him without any establishment beforehand

Like, it's very easy to explain to someone that can't see that the word "n1gg3r" is bad period and I always a negative when it's said. You don't need to see a color to know that.

But the nuance of "nigga" only being ok from a black person, but not ok from others (which is very dependant on physical skin color as an identifier) , I imagine is hard to get across since they can't literally see the race of the person or have any context. So anyone saying nigga is a toss up to the fully blind from birth person, that they will only know it's ok is if they say themselves they are black and/or someone else's confirms - which can easily be lied about since you can take them by word

And at that point, in that context, I don't think the fully and always been blind person would grasp nor really care since they dependence on a physical attribute that can only be seen, not touched, is totally foreign from them

    • Very interesting and strange to think about - like wondering what the inside of a fully deaf person from birth "sounds" like in their head and thoughts to themselves. Is there sound? Is it hand signs? What if they don't know hand signs? Or even if they do, is just innate impulses that still gets it across for them without all the "extra"? Very cool and weird.
