I think yasiin bey is one of the greatest music makers to ever bless the artform. I say this as a #NewDanger believer. And his MO as an artist overall is one more should emulate.
If going by black star 2 and some of his recent feats, im not exactly sure what folks is excited about lol.
I do get this for sure. I will say, as a Sunni Muslim, I really think a lot of what he raps about are concepts called tawhid, akhira, and tawakul in our religion. It’s really beautiful stuff to me in that it is more reflective of his faith than preachy and scoldy which is rare. I actually think that’s the mission statement when he raps bc so much of what he raps about is in spirit of these beliefs and virtues.
“my favorite band” is the best example of this from recent drops.
It’s so funny you say that bc the manny fresh joint is coming back and so is negus
They’re all supposed to drop this year. Idk why he even made a deal out of it if they weren’t gonna actually drop. I also don’t know how he needs to do legal clearance for a bandcamp drop
Mannie Fresh album is dropping?? source?

Mannie Fresh album is dropping?? source?
Manny fresh said about it a bit iirc but it’s “dropping” in the same way his Christmas album is dropping in June
if you pray dont worry, if you worry dont pray
Why wouldn’t you pray if you’re worried? As a Christian that’s confusing to me

Maybe it’s “if you worry don’t, pray”
I doubt this ever drops now.
What makes you think this won't drop if you don't mind me asking?
If this was a Mos Def album fully produced by Dr. Dre then I would agree with you that it will NEVER come out lol

Tawakul is what he’s referring to. Complete trust in God’s planning while making our best efforts to be proactive but also understanding that God knows best.
Of course we are all plagued by worries in this life which he also acknowledges.
“From the start, the only thing certain is thе end. Promised to all and none know not when. Heartbreak from yesterday, and fret for tomorrow. I leave you now filled with anxiety and hollow. If you pray, don’t worry. If you worry, don’t pray.”
So this part is referring to the belief in Islam that only God knows the hour of “akhira” or the end. Similar to Christianity how the father only knows the hour. Prayer (salah) in Islam is more so an act of worship and surrender to God. When you pray islamicly, it’s almost like an acceptance of God’s planning and wisdom rather than a call out of despair. Dua in Islam (supplication and invoking God for help) is more similar to Christianity’s concept of praying for God’s assistance through hardships.
Very beautiful song from an Islamic perspective on dunya (the world we reside in) and our ultimate destination.
^With all that said, where are the albums @mos_def ????

Thank you for the explanation
One of my good friends who is Muslim was kind of explaining this when we went to mosque
I told him I pray much more than five times (ideally, because I be forgetting) but it’s sort of all the types prayer all in one instead of having them be for specific things. I usually just spitball requests and thanks and sometimes just think out loud but I do try to not make it so self centered
Really good explanation. I would say ideally we want to have that trust in God as well where we aren’t worried because we know things are working out how they’re supposed to, but personally I’m not there yet at all and more honestly I’m far from it, but I’m working to get better at it too
brother that was madlib
