Sampling the drums of one of your own greatest hits, to me is something a washed up hack would do. It’s a lot different from what you’re talking about early in his career where he’s reappropriating other works in more interesting and vital ways in real time. You just want to give him a pass for retreading past glory, and other artists wouldn’t get that grace
