in 2026 almost all music sales numbers are fake / inflated to some degree

that's why I can't go out of my way to bash a big name artist for flopping when in reality, they just may not be willing to play the same bs game as 99% of the field

    damn, this is wild

I really love Don's music & feel like his albums are dope, he has a great vocal texture and his melodies can be insane when he gets in his bag.. he typically has very good production as well

it sucks that he's falling out w/ Ye like so many other collaborators but I didn't know so many Ye fans dislike the guy

This has nothing to do with being a ā€žYe fanā€œ. His voice isnā€˜t bad at all, his music is just boring as hell

Heā€˜s right to remove Field Trip and Circles tho when Ye and his team didnā€˜t clear his features on both songs. Toliver cleared his other features for sure so songs like Moon wonā€˜t go away but yeah

Pretty sure like 80% on Vultures 2 isnā€˜t cleared

I will say, even back before he went in that manic rant he said in an interview that he was trying to flip the context of the word bully and give it a positive connotation or something like that

I absolutely love the antithesis. In my head, I love to think of it as a moment of self reflection from a narcissistic bully which was pretty much the vibe I got from V1 last year... a brief moment of clarity cutting through the noise, revealing loneliness, regret, and a rare hint of humanity. The album feels like the calm after a violent storm, with a few soft rays of light breaking through the darkness. I can already tell I'll return to this often when I'm in that mood

I understand why many people were expecting something more energetic tho

as a comeback record it feels anticlimactic especially compared to MBDTF but I think he's made it clear that he's beyond delivering what people expect from him

    Vultures 2 still in shambles

Most people already forgot that it wasnā€˜t Ye pushing for another Vultures, it was Ty$. Ye only cared about Vultures 1 and already moved on after the LPs for it

Ty$ was the one working on V2 and even used AI to finish the unfinished songs

not Donda level to me, it's a bit below Donda both production wise and thematically, I don't feel like Ye is emotionally invested in many of these songs. it's a fine album and Good by many other artist's standards, like if Travis Scott or Jack Harlow dropped this album it would be a classic. But to me, part of being a fan of Ye / Kanye is the fact that in his prime, he'd pour himself 100% into an album, and while I understand that to do that today would likely be a massive detriment to his health or emotional state, it does feel like Ye is 'coloring inside the lines' a bit with this joint.

vs the Donda album which while a bit messy and heavy handed with features to some people, is one of the most raw albums in his discography, and is a real journey of an album.

I don't hear most of these joints and get the same visceral feeling of a track like Never Abandon Your Family, New Again, or Come To Life. not only from a lyrical POV but production wise there's not a ton of stuff on here that feels like it reflects the mental state Ye was actually in these last few years... it's almost too clean to feel real, especially with a name like BULLY, maybe I was expecting this to be a very angry album.

Sisters & Brothers is great, Mama's Favorite dope too.
All The Love is GOATED for sure. good album, but not really 'classic' for Kanye.

but nowhere near as bad as the worst of Donda 2

never heard Vultures 2 but I hear people trash it all the time in that tier

I may check it out just for fun now that I have this to cleanse my palette with tbh

Man, it’s crazy how we kinda have similar readings of both these albums but reversed opinions. But I definitely get your perspective.

For me, I think if you take each song on Bully on its own as standalone, I can see the critique. But as a collection of songs, the sequencing, the tones, the way his refrains are in conversation with the samples, I feel like this is one of his most cohesive projects ever. I really can’t believe how much this album has resonated with me.

Like the first half of the album is a lot of reaffirming of his ego, his accomplishments, his way working, his status, etc. Even the lyrics on ā€œAll the Loveā€ is something he’s haphazardly expressed in lots of interviews (leaving the pain behind and not letting it define you…to what end) but it’s done so beautifully he wins you over. And then Mama’s Favorite is like this stamp from his own mom on his ego and approach.

Then you get to the title track and he’s finally coming to grips with needing to make a change but being in denial. It’s almost like he’s talking to his medicine. I have a close family member with mental illness and it’s so scary for them to medicate. And I just think it captures that struggle really well.

Then the second half of the album has a complete tonal and rhetorical shift. It’s a lot more gloomy. ā€œI Can’t Waitā€ with him begging to move his mind forward and then with that sample….it reminds me of my family member struggling to find the medicine and dosage that works and then his verse about getting back to business as usual and the sample telling him to wait. It’s so well done.

And then by the outro he finally feels like he’s ready for takeoff again.

Idk that’s how I process the album.

But still had to make a pit stop for ā€œlast breathā€ loll.

hip hop is so cooked it's crazy how much V2 feels like a dumping ground for unfinished half assed ideas and yet a lot of artists would kill for the chance to work with those rough sketches and the potential behind them

Ye ā€žhoppedā€œ on V2 on the last day but I doubt he did s*** lol songs like River were already finished long time ago. Ty$ was using AI to finish the Ye verses on some songs and Ye didnā€˜t say anything about it

Ty$ could be the reason why Ye was f***ing with the AI stuff lol
