Story about Ye and Complex: stories.complex.com/kanye-west-changed-complex

The author juxtaposes Complex's and Ye's rise (with hiccups as well) over the past 20 years.

Kanye West is pop culture. good on them for admitting his impact and hopefully they quit with the quasi-intellectual cynicism they always do when they write about him nowadays

At his condo, in a lux building by the water, there was nothing on the walls except a giant, poster-size color copy of the little quarter-page picture of him in the Astros jersey that ran in The Source’s Roc-A-Fella issue. When I saw it I chuckled, audibly. He asked me why and I kind of awkwardly explained the absurdist humor I found in a person living in such an empty space with only a giant picture of themselves for decoration. He, of course, did not get the joke. To him it made perfect sense. He was manifesting.

They were all mind-blowing experiences, but if I had to call out one night as truly exceptional it would be the May 1, 2011 Watch the Throne session at the Tribeca Grand. Between 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.—in a 20 x 30 hotel room populated by, among others, Kid Cudi, Aziz Ansari, Swizz Beatz, Christian Louboutin, Barry Weiss, and oh, Beyoncé—he and Jay-Z recorded vocals to “N****as in Paris” and “New Day,” and picked the beats, wrote and recorded “Gotta Have It” and “Welcome To the Jungle” from scratch. Four classic songs in one night! I’m quite sure that my presence wasn’t anywhere near as consequential to his process as his was to mine, but he kept inviting me back and, honestly, who’s gonna say no to that?

The writer has been working with Ye since before College Dropout came out till the 2018 rollout.
The article is just juxtaposing Complex and Ye's career over the past 20 years.

god that cover looks so bad. like if it was fanart i wouldn't think it was horrible. but for complex's 20th anniversary issue? embarrassing. i bet they tried to get a shoot with ye but couldn't.
