An event of some sort doesn't necessarily negate a surprise drop. As others have said, given everything that's happened, what he can actually do is probably limited, but if one night without warning he just drops a link to a stream like the Wyoming albums, or something similar to that... it would fit under the umbrella of being both a surprise and a spectacle.
