Donda is seriously one of the most sonically unique albums in recent years
100% agree the production sounded so dark but optimistic at the same time canât really think of anything similar maybe Blackstar by Bowie
Itâs the first album where Kanye shed his image from being Kanye the artist to being Kanye the human. In a weird way, it felt like the the flaws on the album were intentional and Kanye was actively trying to create an imperfect album.
Thereâs this constant clash of crude lyrics with beautiful production on the album.
Yeah Pablo is the first album of his where it felt like he was being intentionally messy and stripping away all of the perfectionism that existed on his first 6 albums
CD and LR are also Kanye the human, so no, it's not his first album
Iâll rephrase âhis first album in a decade where he wasnât just âKanye the artistâ
Yeah Pablo is the first album of his where it felt like he was being intentionally messy and stripping away all of the perfectionism that existed on his first 6 albums
Exactly

Itâs like this insane mix of dark, gothic, moody, and morose but at the same time super modern, uplifting, and beautiful
If we got anything close to TLOP ever again, we would go absolutely insane over it. Itâs a classic
really TLOP would have been a better album with a Rick Rubin Yeezus-esque cutdown. He could have even split it into two albums with as much material as they had
It would go against the very fundamental point of The album
What is Yeezus' theme lol
The fragility of an ego that is denied itâs true and deserves calling

And people, especially on KTT, need to realize that this is absolutely ok. There are no artists on this world who dropped masterpieces after masterpieces, even MJ was past his prime at some point and it's a lot of work to make very strong projects like Grad, 808s, MBDTF, WTT, Yeezus etc. He did all that in around 5 years which is crazy as hell
Kanye was literally inhaling music for ages, no wonder why he went crazy. Drake should also slow down
Ye really is a GOAT man, literally every single one of his studio albums, collab albums included, sound stylistically and thematically independent of one another
Like he really has never put out the same artistic statement twice

I think it worked, and only for that album

And knowing how much of a contrarian Ye is, I think he was getting super bored with the great reception that all of studio albums were getting up until that point (even Yeezus was critically acclaimed), so since then itâs definitely felt like heâs been seeking out to make the most divisive albums possible
Yeezus had a strong theme and therefore it was easy to cut a lot off
TLOP never had any strong theme, it was just vibes for Ye at that time
You can't compare both eras at all
Pablo is the perfect album to throw on a sunny Sunday morning, elite vibes

Definitely
I'm just the opinion some people on here think that artists are robots but they aren't. I'm pretty sure the era from Graduation to Yeezus was very exhausting for Ye if we're talking about mental health. He was constantly under pressure to create music in the shortest possible time for literally no reason
The same with Drake, he put out 4 projects in only 2 years. That's definitely not good for your brain at all

If it's looked at as a conclusion album to his discography it makes sense that it's varied
Although I wouldve preferred if it was his "White Album" with more Paul McCartney / Wolves influence
Definitely

Never thought of it that way. Since the start of his career he felt like he had to put out albums of perfection to be accepted by his heroes and those around him. 808s was the first passion project where he didnât care about what others thought which winded up being groundbreaking. Then MBDTF was probably the most exhausting considering why he had to make it that I think everything else after is him doing whatever he wanted so he didnât have to please anyone anymore.

Up until 2021 I always thought Pablo wouldâve been the perfect album for Ye to retire with, but after hearing Donda I think that wouldâve been the perfect one to hang it up with, especially with how long and epic it was

Ending with Donda is perfect but he's gonna keep going
It's like a show getting an ending and then getting retconned and then ending and then retconned again lol

He's never going to stop
He's like Bowie or McCartney in that case. I wouldn't be surprised if he's going to die and releases his last album a week before he's gone. Ye's whole passion is music and it's never going to die - no matter what happens

Yeah, and also artists never truly retire, most of them usually just end up going on long hiatuses and then returning at some point. Itâs hard to walk away when youâre born with a natural instinct to create

Yeah, he lives and breathes to create, and music is his biggest outlet of expression. Iâm glad that he said he realized that again recently, I think it was some interview last year

Hopefully Tarantino drops another one after The Movie Critic

I think he said it directly after he dropped Donda
Music is his biggest love and also kind of a therapy for him, there are so many unreleased 15-20 minutes freestyles where he just talks about his life or some other personal things
