Y’all hate this kid so much for what lol
I don’t hate him
he’s just not special & I’m okay with saying that
Bruh there's 8 Billion ppl in the world not million
Even if there 7mil ppl a song could still get more than 7m plays obviously. Most ppl don't listen to a song once
Very obvious but I'm always seeing videos or songs with X amount of plays and ppl say wow X amount of ppl have seen this. No it's probably not even half that
It matters because Adele, The Beatles, and MJ are talented musicians capable of continually producing great art for decades-long careers and Yeat is representative of the s***ty low-attention span quick-hit market that is ruining the music industry through over saturation.
Pretentious hipster nerd take tbh. Just take it for what it is. Not everything has to be some generational/stand the test of time type music. He’s making great music that millions of people are enjoying
There’s nothing wrong with Yeat or the way this generation consumes music.
not a hipster nerd take at all, it's 100% true
i dont think only generational talents deserve streams or love, but Yeat is a perfect example of this era, there is also something VERY wrong with how these niggas consume music

His music is fire though lol
Y’all are talking like he’s some struggle meme artists. He makes good music

ye he makes cool stuff
you can agree with what the other dude said + acknowledge that yeat makes cool stuff

But I’m saying how is what he’s saying relevant? Yeat being popular is some indictment on the current generation or capitalism?
Nah whats spooky is he has more streams than Travis and Carti.
new music streams more than old music and Yeat has dropped 3 albums this year
last time Travis dropped solo music was before the astroworld fest disaster
its just been miscellaneous features since then
Carti also hasn't released music since WLR, 2 years ago

if Yeat is a perfect example of how young people this generation consume music then it should be no surprise for him to outperform older artists that are dead or don't release music as nearly the same pace
could you be more specific about what exactly is wrong with how you think people consume music?
But I’m saying how is what he’s saying relevant? Yeat being popular is some indictment on the current generation or capitalism?
im not one of these armchair communist dudes so i dont tie everything to capitalism in a vacuum
i just think over the course of the years that the internet + streaming in tandem have combined together to make music/art in general more of a product than anything before, it's also encouraged shallow listening, skimming, algorithm-fed listeners
why spend a lot of effort + perfecting your music, when you can gear a song to have some form of TikTok virality, and that's what pops off at that too?
it's partially the reason why releases don't feel as big, why there's no clear-cut superstars, (im pretty on the fence as to whether or not that's a bad thing honestly) and why other artists load a s*** ton of tracks on their albums in hopes to run up streams above all else, because physical mediums are essentially dead (in comparison to streaming) etc.
it's a pretty loaded issue in all honesty, i dont think it's all doom and gloom and that music is s*** nowadays, i just think that it's pretty insane to see how much music has changed from consuming and how it's made onwards
if Yeat is a perfect example of how young people this generation consume music then it should be no surprise for him to outperform older artists that are dead or don't release music as nearly the same pace

well yeah im not surprised at all, im just agreeing with that user's sentiment that yeat is emblematic of the way this era consumes music
his music isn't s***, he makes fun and catchy stuff, that seems to be what people want
It matters because Adele, The Beatles, and MJ are talented musicians capable of continually producing great art for decades-long careers and Yeat is representative of the s***ty low-attention span quick-hit market that is ruining the music industry through over saturation.
Yup.
Yeat changed the entire soundscape and will be the most influential artist of this decade
