Running through the gamut with this one
One thing I’ll say, for criticism sake, because that’s fun, is that the pace of Yorgos films is always a bit of an endurance test
I’m not exactly sure why that is
And I’m not exactly sure what I’d cut
Don’t get me wrong, you feel satisfied and you feel full
But a little bloated, it can’t be denied

Still, nothing like you’ve ever seen before in your life
And certainly owing a lot to Kubrick

I guess I don’t know the story of Frankenstein besides the reanimation

Tbh I’ve always thought Frankenstein and Pinocchio have a lot of similarities

    Meaning it’s paced pretty slow?

I don’t think it’s paced slow. But you feel the length. If that makes sense. It’s just something about the way these stories are told. I feel the same way about Thr Favorite and The Lobster when we get to the third act.

  • Still not sure how I think about this movie.

Right now it's OKAY. It's visually insane and love to see that. But the script is a little

I'll figure out some more on this later this week and pop in

But it did remind me of A Clockwork Orange.

For one, like you said, there’s the strange sets, with lots of phallic objects in the background. But, mainly, the cinematography reminds me of Kubrick. Off-kilter, like you’re viewing the world from the eyes of an alien.

Yeah but in like a superfluous way. Kubrick really cared about the craft of script. And as someone who has a weird relationship with kubrick and hates sounding like some film duuude but his films are so multi layered and nuanced and with Poor Things it just felt so Meh. Nothing in poor things reminded of kubrick

Damn this was crazy, really enjoyed. I just think it’s too long but I can’t wait to rewatch. Loved the scenes with Ramy and Willem.

My criticisms aside, the performances were stellar.

Both have strong feminist themes through out, but I guess due to Poor Things being rated R, it was able to explore more themes (especially the sexual ones) and I enjoyed it more. Poor Things was more imaginative. I also couldn’t stand Ryan Gosling in Barbie.

    I’m bias tho. I’m a Yorgos stan.
