This s*** got me in deep thought i wanna make my own layout for how people shop and browse inside a store

  • Jun 23, 2020

I would love to open my own retail space in my city and introduce brands that people don’t know about to the area

but the demographic and average consumer’s salary is just not enough for a place like that to exist

also it’s not a good time for brick & mortar in general

Retail is dying, always wanted to try opening up a shop though. Fill it up with art and a maze layout

hanging out all day with your homies in your own store sounds like fun but running a small business sounds like hell

tbh even big stores aren't making money. This aint the move in 2020

  • Jun 23, 2020

Pop ups are the move if you wanna have a physical space

  • Jun 23, 2020

I drew up plans for one a few years ago. Always wanted to run a skate shop since I was a kid

  • Jun 24, 2020

idk if clothing retail can go full online since there's the "try on" aspect

but yeah s*** isn't doin too hot

  • Yeah a split between a retail space and art exhibit a la Chrome Hearts in NY but tailored to my own taste

As everyone else has said though, it's not really economically feasible full-time. Pop-ups are gonna be the wave

Always wanted a dover street type jawn

  • yessir planning on opening a sneaker store in the near future will open up a 2nd LLC to buy in bulk off of the storefront so the sales volume would get me a nike/jordan tier 1 account

Everyone and their mother in my area is trying to sell clothes on a very low level in my area,I’m talking just selling straight up fake s*** from aliexpress type stuff lol. I’ve always wanted a store full of cool clothes. And atmosphere but you really don’t have too many places the support outside of LA,NY or even somewhere like ATL for example.

Everyone’s trying to sell clothes nowadays in some very cheap capacity tho.

I would like to but never went to business school and corona is killing small business schools. There use to be this store called A Front in the late 00’s they sold sb’s the hundreds stussy and brands like that but the store was really big. the other half was use as a gallery sometimes they would do movie night or small concerts if I did a store I would do it like that also would put one side just for movies records and book. Not only sale clothes but give these kids some cultural knowledge. It would be a better honest version of urban outfitters

  • Jun 25, 2020

not sustainable but yeah. give a lil biography on the brand, showcase some fav pieces of the collection in nice lighting, associates dressed nicely & being courteous
maybe if I had the same passion for clothes that I used to lol

  • Jun 25, 2020

No. My company will innovate the shopping experimence by selling clothes via t-shirt cannon from the sidecar of a motorcycle.

Honestly, it's all about the experience now, and I like everyone's ideas with what their space would be like, but some things are more prevalent than ever:

-brick and mortar will never beat online with prices and selection.
-rent/lease pricing is f***ing crazy (location is everything)
-certain designers/companies (especially f***ing nike) won't open an account with you if you're a nobody. AND they'll only let you buy/sell certain styles first, at THEIR prices and quantities.
-creating an experience for customers is expensive, whether it be galleries, installations, activations, or even owner/employee personalities. you have to give people reasons to go back.

This topic is interesting, and I actually tried to open a physical store (early 2019) after 1 store (a super water down version of DSMNY with their selections) closed down in my local area.

    Retail ass bro.

Making a shop like others mentioned would be cool as f***. One day I think it’d be dope to own a gym, a clothes shop and a coffee shop, each with all entirely different vibes

Man, @CATPUNX said she was in deep thought about this so of course there's been thought about the current landscape so anyone bringing up the challenges of retail/the current economic situation over and over swear MFs forget how to dream just to say the same thing a 100 times

I'm with it - while not retail I've always wanted to have a big space/warehouse one day that would be multi dispensary space inspired by this place back in Austin called the Museum of Human Achievement that was this old s***toy factory but got converted into a space for shows and other art/community related stuff.

me and my parents have actually been considering opening up an antique and 2nd hand furniture store with possibly a bit of clothing and a cafe type thing off to the side. corona put a hold on it but who knows in the future
