But then if you get this on top of a degree, bet it will be praised
this is the move
Nah we needa degrees expensive otherwise everyone gonna be applying to good jobs
So? It's not like you can't apply for whatever you want regardless of qualifications today. We all spam applications from time to time, myself included.
This alternative degree seems to primarily focus on specific trades anyway, it wouldn't exactly make life more difficult for hiring managers in unrelated fields.
Not many people are going to hire you off of this
It depends on the curriculum really. I can only speak on UX, but if someone completed the course & had a good portfolio at the end of it, they could definitely get hired.

Your projects matter way more than anything else in Tech i feel like. A degree is still needed for a lot of jobs though

everyone move a their own pace I don't think anyone under 40 should be questioning themselves if they aren't where they want to be yet
Any sort of bootcamp or certificate program is a legitimate option for getting a job in tech.
certificates yes, mostly just if you're in IT tho. you don't see it too much in software development unless it's highly specialized work they're doing.
i'd steer clear of bootcamps though. a lot of them are predatory asf, and will lock you into contracts that have wonderful things like income share agreements. one of my friends broke his (he had to stay at the job they put him at for 3 years) and now he's being sued for like >$35k.
if you're a software dev you should just build a portfolio and gain connections. ironically enough, university is probably the best place to do this
as far as this goes, this ain't a degree and doesn't fulfill the same purpose of a degree. it could be good to have if you want to get hired by google (which is a very good goal to have), but it's still just a very niche certification designed to promote an online learning platform.
as i said before, don't take this as a degree. i work in IT and while you can in fact make money in this field without one, HR ATS systems will see you don't have one and filter you out often. it's a very competitive field and it's often been recommended to have the trifecta, in order of importance (experience, certs, and degree).

whats so bad about being tied to a job for 3 years?
a lot of nurses do it
Google will save America. Bout time we rethink higher education.
Too many useless credits and garbage classes that are mandatory. Nothing but a waste of time designed to keep us in school longer so we pay more. 99% of degrees should be earned in 2 years or less.
