Obviously Thug can still make great songs but I definitely think he’s way more checked out rap wise than he ever has been. I think it’s fair though, he is trying to put on his artists more currently and has succeeded in doing that to a certain degree so he’s definitely moving into the boss role and out of the hungry artist one.

Clearly it’s impacting the quality of the released music (PUNK is the most name chasing Thug has ever done on any project) but we are still getting gems mixed in with the clear radio/playlist records. The lyrics are quality and it’s clear he’s definitely into a more retrospective role this deep in his career which was always there but it’s nice that it’s a highlight now, it’s just his flows and some beat selection that is really headscratching anymore.

I will always be listening long as he has something to say but I don’t really see him ever having a pure quality run of tracks like back in the day when it was like 4 classic releases back to back. I’d love to see him go full experimental one way or another if he wants to become an innovator again but don’t know how viable that’d be now that people actually look to him to be a relevant artist on billboard where he never had to be pre-SMF.

Praying there is some desire to put the focus back on the music 100% but know that’s prolly not gonna be the reality. Will just enjoy the ride from here on out
