Relapse 2. Relapse isn't just my favorite Em album, it's top 3 albums for me ever.
The lush, creative, dark Dre production, the humorous, kooky, and even at times interspective bars, the sheer amount of insane and just off the wall flows he put into it, it all combines into the perfect "just relax" album to me, perfect mix of stimulating and relaxing.
Em had f***ing THREE ALBUMS WORTH of cuts from the OG Dre sessions, started branching out with more producers with the nutty flows, added more interesting content (Cocaine) and ended up scrapping it ALL for f***ing Recovery; a good album, but comparatively completely disposable.
For me personally, scrapping Relapse 2 was worse than Revival. And he f***ing hates Relapse now, so it'll be a miracle if those songs ever surface when we're all 50 something. I'd have a better chance trying to take my rap career to a point where I could meet him and personally asking him to send me the demos.
Idk, that got heated, but I love Relapse so f***ing much, and I NEED those extra songs one day.

More recently, I’d say Yandhi or the d***ged out Nirvana-esque album The Weeknd was making after Kiss Land

Older than that, i’d say Smile by The Beach Boys

The Smile Sessions is my favourite album of all time, I feel happy with that being the released version of Smile, but it's weird that it's still technically an album that doesn't exist

It's frustrating that the planning was so hazy that a coherent tracklist never emerged, but it's cool seeing all the different versions of the album that people have put together

Even if a sequenced tracklist existed, there’s no telling how much of what was recorded would have made it to the final master of each song?

    Think about the amount of recorded excerpts that were planned to be used for Heroes and Villains alone;
You basically have to sequence those excerpts to be made into a workable and accessible pop track, and considering there’s an innumerable number of takes/excerpts, the completion of the song is basically like a gigantic puzzle.

Don’t forget that you have to do this with every song on the album lol. No wonder Brian collapsed under the weight of the making of this thing

That said, the stuff that’s there is really cool

Some songs that were probably supposed to be on it have leaked, like Oh No, Things Get Worse, and Cocaine. If you haven't heard em yet, they're album quality imho.

Yeah, the 9 min edits of Heroes and Villains are crazy, word is that there are official alternate edit acetates in the hands of some collectors but only brief snippets have been heard by the public

Also, linking to the thread topic too, there's this insane moment in the Do You Like Worms? sessions where Brian sings an alternate melody to the lyrics that ended up being used in BWPS. 0:21 here, sounds way better than the BWPS version IMO and it's a shame they apparently never recorded it:

I miss this flow and honestly I’ll take it a step further. Eminem’s flow got worse after the bad meets evil album. He was firing off on that album very well.

2015 bleaks are a whole treasure trove of peak Thug

  • all the scrapped Lil Ugly Mane projects before he decided he wanted to drop most of the rap persona stuff (and Antwon f***ed everything up for everyone). The Otherside, Bedwetter Pt 2, Secret Circle album, etc. Respect his new music and understand why he scrapped everything but it still sucks most of this stuff will never be heard by anyone really (at least not in cdq)

probably doesn't actually exist but Kanye's Good Ass Job originally meant to follow Graduation

original Beastie Boys album intended for release before MCA died (RIP)

Weezer's Songs From the Black Hole

The Avalanches's original scrapped Since I Left You follow-up

Cudder & The Revolution of Evolution

It became MOTM2 so in the end it’s all okay. But still a whole album of 2009/2010 Cudi with the features he wanted would have been another classic from him
