Off top. 10 is hard. Only one of these isn’t a proper rock record and even that one has wild guitar solos on it and s***. Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!, Funhouse, Swell Maps in ‘A Trip to Marineville’, and White Light/White Heat omitted in favor of shining light on lesser known albums.

    Bad Brains - s/t
Prince & The Revolution - Purple Rain
Oxbow - King of the Jews
    Black Flag - My War
Helium - The Dirt of Luck
Puffy Areolas - In the Army 1981
Unholy Two - $$kum of the Earth
Sun Ra - The Nubians of Plutonia
    The Breeders - Pod
    Clockcleaner - Nevermind

Remain in Light - Talking Heads
Speaking in Tongues - Talking Heads

    The Wall -PF

NYHC ftw, haha. Also, kudos for being a Nirvana fan who didn’t just check out Rock for Light and call it a day. The s/t is the correct answer.

ridiculous to make a top 10 cause I listen to a ton of music (just cracked 2500 ratings on rym apparently), but I'll try...

King Krule - 6 Feet Beneath The Moon
    Mount Eerie - Now Only
    Grimes - Art Angelz
Car Seat Headrest - Twin Fantasy
    Can - Tago Mago
    Fishmans - Uchu Nippon Setagaya
    Aphex Twin - SAW V2
    Nicolas Jaar - Sirens
    Jai Paul - Leak
    David Bowie - Low

(also didn't include hip hop-connected artist like Frank, Flylo or Death Grips)

also s/o Alice Coltrane, Tim Buckley, Boredoms, GY!BE, Grouper, Captain Beefheart, Burial, Radiohead.... I'm definitely forgetting a lot rn

    Tago Mago ✊🏽

Which Beefheart and Boredoms would have made your list?

    goat German band to me

prolly Vision Creation Newsun (also love Super ae tho) and for Beefheart Safe As Milk (Trout Mask is one of the most unique visions ever committed to music tho).

Only recently checked out some earlier Boredoms, need to dive deeper there. I actually saw Seiichi and Yoshimi in Osaka and Tokyo, respectively, while traveling Japan two years ago :)

Oh s***, that’s awesome! I started with the earlier stuff (Pop Tatari and Soul Discharge) but also Seadrum. The very first LP, Osorezan no Stooges Kyo, is super weird but really cool from a production standpoint, particularly for the time. Love all of their stuff, though.

Safe as Milk is underrated since it’s the most “normal” early record. Every album has good songs (even the two everyone hates; “Observatory Crest” and “Upon the My-Oh-My” are two of my absolutely favorite Beefheart tracks) but I think I still like Trout Mask the best. It was the first one I heard and I still love it (in spite of the events surrounding its creation, which is a whole story unto itself that involves starvation, isolation and John French allegedly being thrown bodily down a flight of stairs).
