“If Safe In The Hands Of Love marked a daring transformation, Heaven To A Tortured Mind is infinitely more audacious. Yet in one of the many perverse contradictions that define Tumor’s output, it’s also his most approachable work by far, a move to the middle that never sounds like a compromise. On “Kerosene!” Tumor touts his own shapeshifting powers, confidently asserting, “I can be anything.” This album is the proof.”

I'm impatient and need this to leak...

I bought the silver vinyl, tickets before the past, and a t-shirt on Bandcamp so I would have a clear conscience.

This review is phenomenal. Bias aside, this tackles the music of the album head on and reviewer is definitely knowledgeable and comfortable with what he’s talking about

Agreed really liked this review and them resonating the idea that sithol being an amazing experimental album doesn’t necessarily mean he can’t make an album in a more accessible genre and it not still be infinitely superior to his contemporaries’ music.

lol this newsletter got a copy and like 5 of the reviewers either said something like "it's not experimental enough" or "it doesn't change genres enough"

Why would anyone doubt that tho? Safe although being "experimental" had clear pop angles and radio friendly jams.

He definitely living up to the Bowie surname. He can keep it underground or go radio-esque whenever

Reviewers are already complaining this isn’t experimental enough because apparently your music can’t be good unless it’s experimental to them.

This already sounds amongst some of the best music in the genres he wanted to use for it tho I’m not sure about his breakout appeal because the music is amazing but he’s still an extremely small artist compared to even internet musicians like Clairo who getting millions of plays for no reason other than being pretty and white. It would take a lot to make him an accessible figure, he’s a drag wearing gigantic unapologetically gay dude as much as this era wants to be woke they probably ain’t ready for that.

Sad because if anything Yves and Sampha, Solange and the like should be running the BET/Soul Train Awards. Black kids need to see Yves through a show on a major platform. Like we don't have to just be 2 genres or modes. We are creative af and can rock out

i call them and ppl like dev, kelela ect the alt-blacks lol n yes i agree wholeheartedly! this "movement" per say has grown a lot since '10 and deserves widespread attention or at least more than it's currently getting.

Agreed only reason I even get so defensive bout yves is cause his music and image legit reformed me as a black person and it could do the same for a lot of black folk but they either want us to rap or make pop and r&b, anything we try to venture out to musically gets labeled as a derivative of one of those 3 genres usually

I know the last few Soul Train Awards were consulted by Erykah and Questlove...but imagine a whole show ran by Dev and Solange with backing from Diddy or Hov or some s*** shown on Revolt/Tidal
