You can absolutely end up biting someone who took your sound to another direction. MOTM3 sounds more like Trav than Cudi, that's why nobody criticized Cudi for just making the same music again

Read my post again, I never said it wasn't possible. For better or for worse Trav bit Cudi's whole s*** because he was inspired and clearly Cudi didn't mind and actually became inspired by the music Travis has been making (which is completely fine).

The Travis Scott influence on motm3 is overstated so much. There’s like 3 songs where I can deadass hear Travis, the rest is just more modern day trap production that ppl aren’t used to hearing cudi over

This. This. This. 100%. This is why I understand when certain artists like Lauryn Hill or Andre 3000 never drop. The expectations are too high and damn near unrealistic. Y'all would've been b****ing if MOTM3 just sounded like 1 or 2. He gave us vibes just like the first mixed in with something new. As if Cudi was just biting Travis. Travis kisses the ground he walks on and that's barely an exaggeration.

OP's real lucky that my ass didn't see this thread sooner, because I would've shut this s*** down immediately.

    Overrated album tbh

Production sounded like she wanted to sound like a Kanye album but something was missing

She has potential. I think her next album will be really special

Dive literally sounds like Birds in Trap era Trav, It's the only song I skip on MOTM3

I like Dive personally. But you're right about it sounding like one of the better songs on Birds.

When will you niggas stfu about MOTM3 not being MOTM3. MOTM1 and 2 don't even sound like each other. Yet you niggas still forcing this idea that MOTM3 was supposed to be like the first 2.
See this is why it took 10 f***ing years for Cudi to make MOTM3, because of threads like this, and niggas who kept tweeting at him to "drop MOTM3".

Times had change and artists try new things. They can't stick to one particular style all the time.

But anyways, MOTM3 is worthy of being MOTM3, because it's the greatest way to close off a chapter in Cudi's career and life in a bigger note.

His sound always changed each album, if you don't appreciate the work, then move on and stop whining about it bruh.

MOTM 3 is MOTM 3. All I stated was that shake did what cudi thought he was doing unless his goal from the start was to drop an album half filled with bland sounding pop trap.

I really don’t mind him pursuing a modern sound, in fact I welcome it. It’s just that he did the safest, most boring s*** he could do. Fact is, he could’ve come way harder especially with the musical connections he has.

But y’all are content with mediocrity and won’t admit that the album is the weakest and least inspired in the trilogy, so you get defensive and pull the whole “artists can try new things” card. Nobody is disappointed about cudi trying the trap sound. He’s known for deviating from the crowd and being on his own s*** musically, but this time he just rode a wave. Shoulda picked Pi’erre, Mike will or some s*** at least

so you criticize him for riding a wave, but then you want him to get on pierre beats thatd be even worse

You're saying that Cudi was trying ride the trap wave which is bogus when you could try to listen to any of the songs off the radio or by huge artists of now and figure out that the first half of MOTM3 doesn't sound like many artists out nowadays. The only person you could compare to him who is played constantly is Travis, and even then it's still in Cudi's lane, because Cudi literally created Travis. Yes, there's a thing called "reverse influence", but also there's been plenty of songs that Cudi has made before doing styles like this, even on his unreleased s***. So that point is dead.

Also you didn't even mention the 2nd half of the album. All of 2nd half was pretty much classic Cudi.

    Like bro,

    The Void?
    Solo Dolo 3?
    Lovin Me?
    Elsie's Baby Boy?
    Sept 16?
    The Pale Moonlight?
    Lord I Know?
    Rockstar Knights?

The only song that Cudi really had rode a wave on is Show Out, because it literally sounds like a Skepta song at most.

Some good songs on this album but Leave Cudi out of this

I thought I made it clear throughout the thread that I was referring to the first half of the album. I agree with you on the second half, although I still think that those songs are pretty mid for cudi standards. At least they sound different

  • Feb 17, 2021

This thread reminded me to listen to Modus Vivendi all the way through and the first half of the album is a powerhouse, left a little be desired lyrically/conceptually but she's really got something here.
