CPD was just recently in a scandal for flying their initials over a predominantly black part of the city like a taunt. This particular case doesn't strike me as one where personal condemnation of the officer is worthwhile given the circumstances as we know them at present.

However, the same structural conditions underlie the altercation. This girl was in foster care and in custody of Child Protective Services. Columbus is a highly segregated city. Yes. They can still s*** to detain instead of shoot to kill. They aren't there to serve and protect, they aren't the military. With that said should they shouldn't be shooting to kill. With proper training, if he were actually interest in deescalating the issue, he should have tazed her or at most shot her in the leg. I understand she had a deadly weapon but she was no threat to him only others in that time frame. He had enough time to assess the situation and he went straight to "yeah let me off this child."
