We need another TPAB-esque album from him

I bet we get another before he retires and all is said and done but as more of a retrospective looking back as a black man rather than trying to effect change in the present

  • Dec 11, 2022

imma need a tpab lost tapes type project or someone to leak that whole era of leftovers cause the world needs this s***

Threads like this are why “Crown” might be the quintessential kendrick song for me tbh.

First, TPAB era was such a special moment. These ideas (and why these joints wasnt on uu) you can see he actively was working out in real time. Addition by subtraction turning organized madness into a dope acapella prelude to Blacker The Berry. That 2nd verse on falsehood was on that one radio freestyle and the 3rd ( ) was on i cd version. It’s things like this that show that Kendrick was very meticulous with the making of this album.

It’s just funny cause like…none of this love and high praise for TPAB was around during its time. Like KTT1/niggas HATED the album, calling it “preachy” above all things. And before “it sold so you capping” nigga, even Kendrick said it. I remember when i came out during a very angry time in college and that whole song (and relatable 3rd verse) was like a sunshine on a cloudy day in audio form, and niggas was not f***ing with that song at. All.

And his constant mentioning of the reception of it ( last LP i tried to lift the black artist; I prophesied on my last song, you laughed at me, but when the s*** get brackin don’t you ask for me) showed it got to him heavy. I’m sure it must’ve hurt, considering before MM my nigga bore his SOUL on that album. Nigga was crying on a song thinking about his friend that passed away.

Just for niggas to complain on the internet there was “no bangers”

Think tonight I realized why TPAB probably his least favorite album. Even if its arguably his best.

Yall dont have to lie to prove a point. Album was acclaimed everywhere.

Falsehood sounds superb, leaks can be annoying but it’s so rare to hear new kendrick anything. I’m enjoying this

@TIIMMY_BURNER If im rewriting history why does Kendrick whenever he references how people received TPAB it’s always negative?

that’s straight from the horses mouth, that aint from a s***posting user on a niche forum.

@Scratchin_Bandit already been said everything since then has been a purposeful retconn of TPAB almost basically saying “I tried to change the world but f*** yall I quit, I need to be there for my family and mental health”

Chose his family over the revolution, depending on what side of things you on that can either be admirable or depressing.

i think the disconnect is critical reception vs mainstream reception. in virtually all critic circles, music circles, etc, TPAB was universally acclaimed to an insane extent, but in mainstream pop circles it was definitely trashed. i think since the critical acclaim is what's written in history now it's hard to really remember that there were large swathes of avg people who had just learned of him from GKMC who thought it was trash

unironically a large turning point for online discussion specifically was fantano giving it a 10 very similar thing that happened with death grips. i don't want to gas up fantano as i don't like his channel, but undeniably separate from pre-existing critics (which separately gave it overwhelming acclaim regardless) a lot of online music circles (see: reddit) really changed their mind immediatedly about TPAB after the fantano review. before a lot of the discourse was "why is this so different than GKMC" than after that review you staretd seeing everyone put TPAB in their top 5 albums ever and putting it in their topster charts and s*** very similar thing in these same circles also happened with Die Lit
