With Griselda, Nas being more active again, plus artists like Lupe, Gibbs, Pusha, Earl having fully realized their sound/creative direction I think the 2020's are shaping up to be better than the 2010's. @Aftermathbws
2010s had MBDTF/Yeezus/GKMC the best 3 albums in the last 20 years. But if i listed my top 50 or 100 albums there'd be much more in the 2000s than 2010s.

Looking back as an adult a lot of material from back then just dated badly in terms of content and substance
All the swag rap, can't tell you I give a s*** about it now. I much prefer the boom bap/grimey rap revival that emerged in the last few years.

im ngl i was low key a "real rap" fan in hs in the 2000s. didn't hate on wayne but did ringtone era, the crunk era, and swag rap. But when i'm comparing decades i'm only remembering the top half anyway.
Idk man. People forget but there was a lot of trash in the 2000's like ringtone rap and snap lol people love to gloss over it like it didn't exist, but i was alive back then and witnessed it in real time. i'll take soundcloud trash over that any day
Snap rap & ringtone rap>>>>> jerk music & early dj mustard Era
There’s allot of great music in both but I’m going 2010s cuz I’ve become so accustomed to some of these new guys like Kodak & Rio Da Yung OG
I personally prefore the 10s, and even the 90s over the 00s.
Beats/production is the most important thing for me in music and I never really f***ed with the sound of most of the 00s classics.
10's
first half had hella classics and the second half had great fun songs.
00's is just a drought, hence why wayne called his mixtapes that
recency bias all over the thread
You can call it nostalgia bias if they pick the other option

Waaaay to early to say this, 2010s also began pretty good
2000s no doubt
10s tbh
first music decade i really lived through and witnessed guys like kendrick and drake go from rookies to ogs

True!
The real conversation is 2010 - 2015 vs 2000 - 2005
Both decades dipped musically after the first 5.

Lil Wayne
Dropping fire
Bump.
I prefer the 2000's easily. I'll get flamed for saying this but I always felt the 2010's era of hip hop was too dependent on Kanye and Kendrick for quality hip hop in the mainstream. Once you take those 2 out of the picture, 2010's hip hop is honestly generic af as a whole. Not bad but not as amazing as people say it is.
A lot of the "creative" s*** ya'll gassed up is overhyped tbh. Rocky and Danny Brown lived up to it imho. But I always felt Chance, Bino, and Tyler were just above average artists but not amazing.
Not to mention, the quality of music Wayne, Em, Jay, T.I., and Jeezy put out doesn't hold a candle to their 2000's works.
But the real kicker for me is the lack of timeless club bangers. Forget the decline in actual rapping. That's what trips me out the most.
A lot of bangers in the 2010's are either in the moment or not very danceable. Niggas in Paris is the most timeless club song, proving my first point.
In the 2000's, you had In Da Club, Gold Digger, Tell Me When To Go, Get Low, Drop It Like It's Hot, Yeah!, Ignition(Remix), Step In the Name of Love(Remix), Throw Some D's, Hot In Herre, Ride Wit Me, Work It, Dirt Off Your Shoulder, Slow Jamz, Always on Time, Party Up, X Gon Give It To Ya, etc.
Aside from Niggas in Paris, what club song in the 2010's do ya'll consider timeless? I'm genuinely curious.

I agree, especially with your point on the "creative" rappers
