Crazy that Jason outlasted most of the people on this list lmao

Only cause he pulled a Flo Rida and capitulated to the “frat white people who d*** people’s drinks” music.

    Nigga said ice queen delivery

@op that article in trying to big up Cassie mentioned probably the biggest valid critique anyone ever had on her, her vocals...were just not that strong nor exceptional.

And if you wanna talk influence, idk I guess you could attribute those kinda soft minimalist/whispery singing to her...but I’d put that more on Jhene.

good singing isn't just about fitting one small criteria that you deem acceptable, it's not just about belting out strong notes and diva melodies like Mariah or Beyonce,

There is a reason Bjork, CFCF, Kingdom, Four-Tet are all fans.

I prefer softer more controlled icy style vocals like an Aaliyah, Ciara and Cassie style vocal, if that is something you don't understand then maybe music is not something you should discuss with others as your close mindedness is a sign of a lack of experience with other sounds

People that only deem 'strong over the top' singing to be acceptable have the worst taste in music and are normie asf

modern R&B doesn't care about traditional vocal skills which isn't necessarily bad

i almost disagreed but you're right, not necessarily...

what do they care about is the real question? just the vibe? what makes up for the lack of vocal ability?

I was a youngin at the time and I can’t lie this still one of my least favorite eras

Maybe it was the production idk. A lot of it sounded cheap to me. Feels like the genre had become a shell of its former self. On top of that once some of these artists got more established they started tryna making music with universal appeal and a lot of it fell flat imo

What are some of your favorite moments from this time

    What albums did you enjoy
