no, the original Whig party was succeeded by the Republican and a couple other (?) parties. the modern one was formed in 2007 and has nothing to do with the original

Apparently Duckworth is getting a serious look for VP.

I mean, if Biden's VP slot is just going to be filled with someone that checks the boxes of "woman" "not white" and "younger", and not someone to the left of him that will have a serious say on policy, then you might as well go for the person that gives you the best electoral chance.

And I don't see how he can go wrong with Duckworth. She really doesn't have too many things people can use against her. And she's got the patriotic story that she can throw back at Trump and the GOP whenever they say anything about her.

Electorally this would be a huge yikes decision imo. She isn't super well known, but those that do know of her aren't fond of her because of her role in Benghazi. She also doesn't have a ton of experience or anything.

Feel like the only reason Biden would pick her is because he likes her from his time working with her in the Obama Administration. Which is a really stupid reason for choosing a VP.

Then again, I think Biden's team is floating these things, to see how people react to them if they were the choice.

Trump is going to get bodied unless the economy u-turns hard, so any of the rumored VPs are fine.

I think the one I least want to see is Kopmala, who could use the name recognition and liberal circlejerk that comes with being VP to be the next dem nominee. She would be an awful president and actually very likely to lose against some far right lunatic in 2024.

Lmao now we’re cancelling random individuals for supporting Trump

On the one hand, you’ve gotta be dumb to openly proudly support Trump and probably deserve it just for your inability to read the room. On the other hand, going out and cancelling random non-celebrities because they support the current sitting president is big time goofy. The comments on this thing are bananas

You gotta wonder how many decades of presidential candidates’ best argument for themselves being “the other one is worse” will go by before everybody writes somebody in.

Lmao there's no way. There's a wayyyyy better chance of a third party candidate winning, and even that is super low.

Also, if people wanted to elect someone that is outside the norm of party establishment, they have that option in the primaries (Bernie and Ron Paul being two more recent examples). And neither of those candidates won the nomination. Likely American voters just prefer establishment candidates.

The big thing that would need to change is WHO is voting in the primaries and general election. Because a huge amount of eligible people just don't vote.

Lol no, did you read my post? We're only f***ed if people don't vote at every level and stage of the voting process.

If people either just don't vote, or wait until the general election in November and only vote for the President and look at the list of candidates and say "this s*** sucks, they always choose the worst nominees (when I had the chance to vote for a nominee in the primariee but was too lazy to). F*** it I'll just write-in Kanye (when he has no chance of winning). I like his clothes and music, and the last time we elected a celebrity that had no experience in government it worked out great "
