what's crazy is that trump has done more in the last like 2 months - the whole "patriotic education" thing, banning critical race theory, tiktok ban, etc. - to appeal to the same base he rallied in 2016 than he did legitimately over 4 years of his presidency. It's like he woke up one morning and the GOP was like "hey you have to actually run again you know, do something" and he was like "oh, yeah, let me throw some half assed s*** out there that sounds good rhetoric-wise". makes me wonder how worried the GOP is/was about his re-election
Honestly I think Trump/GOP pushing a justice rn would be bad for their election chances. I can't see that being a good look to moderates/undecided voters.
Obvi, it's absolutely terrible for long term prospects of passing progressive policies though.
Biden isn't winning, right? Just because 50% of the country doesn't like Trump doesn't mean they automatically like you

I mean there's a long way to go, but there's so many more indicators pointing to a Biden win right now than just simply Trump's approval numbers. Read up fam.

Arizona pls come through
GOP is going to confirm wayyyyy before then. This is a once in a lifetime chance for them, they will risk whatever it takes to get it done if they're smart.
Imagine GOP actually passing an amendment to allow Trump to run for a 3rd term, inadvertently opening up the door for Obama to run for a 3rd term. Trump vs Obama 2024

I'm partially inclined to believe that Obama would not run in that scenario for two reasons
A) he wouldn't want to risk a loss, which could put a damper on his legacy (the legacy that the left leaning media portrays as excellent right now).
B) the Dems and him are all about soft power in politics, and I think they would view Trump gunning for a 3rd term as something that they could use against him to dissuade voters if they don't also do it themselves. Not sure how effective it would be, but I think that's the approach they would take.
why is the narrative "biden will add 4 progressive judges if the vacancy is filled before inauguration" a thing, anyone can see right through that
it'd be 4 merrick garlands if anything

at the point where dems are arbitrarily adding judges to the court there is no reason to think the country will not just attempt to balkanize along regional party lines. at that point the politics of both parties given the context of the current climate it shows there's not even the flimsy guise of interest in actual government functionality. it's not the mid 1900s anymore where there's some semblance of the government actually caring about the country/public. if they really do that, the country may as well admit there's no point in attempting to pretend we have a functioning central system of cooperation and admit we'd be better off with no federal government and just inter-state unions. because it's just going to be a back and forth of dems and reps constantly attempting to change government function at an arbitrary pace to represent their party it asks why these institutions exist to begin with if neither party actually cares about their structure. everything i'm saying here is pretty obvious and it's not that great of an observation to be honest but i just think the country continuing further down the path of breaking down its institutions regularly just really shows how weak these institutions were to begin with
If Biden plays into Trump's game of talking about RGB and the supreme court at the debate instead of Covid and the economy he is a dumbass.
Trump desperately wants anything to distract people from the f*** up he's done this year, and this supreme court stuff is the perfect thing to do so.
Biden, pelosi, and Schumer put up a "Resistance" against a potential 6-3 court system shows how sad the modern Democrats are.
Maine is doing ranked choice voting this time around, so that's a few electoral votes in Biden's pocket right there.
In other news, the widow of John McCain is endorsing Biden because Trump talked s*** about the troops.
