It’s not UBI, niggas itt just reaching
Exactly, are we around the same 19 to 24 year range? We all can remember what has happened last decade right?
I don't get how this is UBI, wasn't this done similar to how Obama gave checks for the 2008 recession? Trump didn't even said it would be monthly...
Wasn't it called tax credits or some s***?

Yeah and it didn't do anything for us since it was only once. The 1k drop won't help us at all in the long run.

Mnuchin himself didn't call it a UBI, but the White House is in contact with Yang which is the real shocker.
Also as far as I know Obama's stimulus checks weren't universal and were tax relief-based rather than being universal checks cut to all Americans. Plus, with Trump taking this as a baseline, democrats have tried to one up him with actual UBI policies calling for monthly investments.

btw I'm not a UBI proponent, I was just making an observation about party policy and trends
Trump just said the coronavirus situation is "worse than 9/11" and him and Mnuchin endorsed UBI. You can't make this up. Republicans supporting UBI
you think democrats will be forced to add this to their platform?
pretty sure UBI was a republican idea for while. Friedman coined the term

Friedman was mostly a libertarian though, not really a conservative. Post Reagan-republicanism isn’t really in the same box as Friedman, it’s a weird mix of conservative authority and restricted federalism
This isnt a UBI but the perception of it will help Yang a lot, his idea wont seem so crazy in 2024.

I know but he definitely shifted the republican orthodox on fiscal issues. Clinton Reagan and Nixon all adopted a few things Friedman said or at least tried to implement some things. And Friedman would probably be closer to conservatism today than libertarianism.

If Trump sees that response to this is positive, I could see him adopting it to help with his re-election chances, since this whole affair is going to really knock his chances.

the concept of UBI existed long before the Republican Party. G.D.H Cole was the first individual to call it basic income anyway.
friedman proposed a negative income tax over time, not UBI.

the entire reason both parties are able to borrow from each others ideas is bc the democratic party and republican party are effectively the exact same at the moment outside of certain outliers or lip service issues - this should be eye opening for the american public of what the state of politics is now across the board but i know it won’t be
