She’s already in the hot seat. She’s even more unpopular than trump, as is the rest of congress for the past few decades. Joe Biden would let her pass legislation that she wants to pass, and wouldn’t put a stop to any of the money she’d be making off of paid speeches. If she wanted a republican in office, she wouldn’t be consistently trying to block most of his bills, she’s just be a republican. If you had said she wants trump over Bernie, I still would’ve disagreed but I would have seen where you were coming from. Biden poses no threat to her pockets

Biden was just to prevent Bernie from getting the nom, she knows he's gonna lose. What I'm saying is she's fine with Trump because hes not a systemic threat whatsoever. I'm sure she'd prefer Biden to Trump but yeah my argument is she would prefer Trump to Bernie even if that means the Dems losing another general election.

    this is really so sad

lmaooo imagine being that much of a political robot you can't speak off the cuff about a pretty basic concern that everyone's been talking about for weeks.

If Bernie was president she could just block or water down his proposals. Trumps legislation + his party having a majority in the senate means anything she wants to pass is getting blocked

There’s nothing indicating she would do that and in fact she’d do the opposite. Dems like Rs are a business party and only respond to power and will fall in line. Especially in Bernies case cuz his policies are winning across states. Him winning Cali and a progressive challengers got her shaking in her boots. Last year she scolded GND and M4A and now she wouldn’t mind a Bernie presidency and advised him to stay in the race. She’s pivoting left for a reason.

She doesn’t agree with Bernie’s economic policies and would try to water it down or compromise it to something livable with her. That’s what the Congress is doing to trump now with his more extreme proposals

The fundamental difference here is who they answer too. Trump and Congress serve the same interest so of course they would. With Bernie it’s different because he has principles and can mount an immense outside pressure using his bully pulpit to highlight these compromises.

  • “He has absolutely infuriated the liberal establishment by committing a major crime,” Chomsky said, explaining that the Democratic elite is not opposed to Sanders just because they don’t like his policies, but because he has managed to build a powerful movement of activists willing to participate in the political process.

Progressives now make up 30-40% of the Democratic Party if Biden loses (which he probably will) it will give more legitimacy to the progressive movement.

There will 100% be someone who picks up Bernie’s mantle in 2024. Hopefully Bernie will endorse someone early and back them through the primary

Worst case will be that Bernies movement spreads out and falls apart over the next four years

  • Mar 24, 2020

It’s gonna be interesting to see how 2022 goes, if we see more progressives running and winning similar to 2018

The American population is more conservative than you think. Some people might try to fight against these compromises, but most of the public needs to see the change to believe it, and the republicans and centrist democrats won’t let that change come in the first place

If Biden wins the DNC will want to clear the 2024 primary field for him or whoever his VP is if he decides not to run again.

It would be the perfect situation for a progressive to make a strong challenge against him/his VP ala Reagan in '76

Don't think Biden will win guy is probably one of the worst candidates at building excitement for his campaign ever, something Trump is very good at

I mean I thought the same but Trump is doing a terrible job with the coronavirus outbreak and if he lifts the restrictions in 3 weeks like he said and deaths spike, he's all but done.

apologies, you're right, I misread this as on my feed it was adjacent to something about senate democrats. the 1400 page package pelosi put out earlier today was an even bigger disaster than the above. with that said I'm not a fan of Tlaib but she's the only dem in the house who has virtually had any semblance of a viable solution with the simple distribution thing she had proposed a few days ago. I meant to allude that her and the more progressive sect in the house are for the once the only real coalition that's really had any good ideas. and they have more common ground with the GOP than their own party, which is absolutely insane.

a part of me really wants to comment on how crazy it is how hard theyre fumbling this, but when it comes to giving aid to people its the norm

ironic how short sighted theyre being tho. a strong proposal from either side rn could set them up for electoral strength for at least another cycle.

it's because they're obsessed with these bloated mega-package bills that try to slip in little bits of stupid legislature they know they can't pass otherwise (both parties are guilty of this atm). It's basically agreed upon if they would just stop with these stupid mega-packages and instead call votes on individual resolutions they'd almost certainly have both aid, healthcare reform, business nationalization, and SBA subsidies/grants passed with bipartisan support.
both parties have members which are using this rhetoric now - you're literally seeing Tom Cotton & Ilhan Omar agreeing on twitter, which would have thought to be impossible even 3 weeks ago, the issue is that party leaders on both ends (i.e. Pelosi & McConnell) are attempting to smother dumb stuff together by shoving all of these issues into the same bill and then appending other bits and pieces to it. if they would just bring up the individual resolutions the voting floor they'd be passed in no time.

all facts. its s*** like this that really turns people off the whole process too. as a poli sci major trying to explain to family members and s*** what the hold up with something being done is, its just tiring to even explain it all

It's not about that, it's about the fact that alternatives were universal and much more logical. Just because you can doesn't mean you should
