We as fans and outsiders can ask every year “why do people still care about the Grammys” but the fact of the matter is they’ll always have relevance as long as they’re important to artists on a widespread level

Yes the award doesn’t actually “mean” anything but for many artists it’s an acknowledgment of their art being validated whether we like it or not

1. Music is a universal language. You don’t have to understand the lyrics to appreciate and enjoy an album.

2. The US is not a monolingual country. 14% of the population is Spanish-speaking, which equates to about 60 million people. That’s no small number.

3. Bad Bunny is a megastar in the US. He had the highest selling album of 2022 in the US, and has the fourth-highest selling album of 2025.

4. Bad Bunny is a US citizen by birth. Saying that the Grammys shouldn’t award a Spanish-speaking album because the majority of US residents don’t speak Spanish is just dumb because the artist who made the album is legitimately an American citizen, why shouldn’t his art be awarded a fair shot at the Grammys?

Yes, Latin artists should have a fair shot to win it.

The album got so many sales, yeah, but what do people say about the album that makes me people feel like it’s album of the year worthy.

Which is why I side-eye your first point? Yes, music is a universal language, but the context always matters. Lyrics have the power to impact the listener positively and negatively. It can create movements and change.

So again, I’m curious what makes Bad Bunny’s album so impactful that it deserves AOTY.

The album is a love letter to Puerto Rico, and it’s extremely timely with the political climate this year and how Hispanic people are being spoke about in the media and treated by the government
