The Melodic Rap category is a step in the right direction for sure

True but even that in name is kinda limiting. Someone like Carti isn’t really melodic at all, but the style of music he makes will never be acknowledged by the Grammys because they only recognize traditional hip-hop in the Best Rap Album Category

    Niche artist

300k first week sales and multiple billboard top 10’s very niche

You know what? Since y'all lames apparently don't care about the Grammys cause it's a "white industry award" (many of the greatest Black musicians to ever make music have won and been rightfully praised at the awards) cool. Let's talk BET and NAACP Awards then.

Kendrick got 16 BET awards and 36 BET hip-hop awards. 9 NAACP awards.

Drake got 17 BET awards and 24 BET hip-hop awards. 2 NAACP awards.

Now are those not good enough despite them being directly related to celebrating Black culture and art?

aight caps lock s***posting after an emotional weekend aside

whether it's a grammy or a BET award or any award, I personally just don't put emotional stockage into who wins what or who is most nominated on what platform in all seriousness. When you work in an industry where you meet/work with grammy winners and see exactly what type of s*** that can get you (and/or who the type of people that really REALLY REALLY I mean REALLY live and die over that s***, people that have had depressive episodes over just getting nominated), it kinda rings hollow to me personally.

Kendrick a Grammy darling since GKMC but admittedly, apart from this year, when has he not really deserved it?

lol and GKMC lost to Macklemore

Exactly that lol it's the recognition and praise of your work by the masses AND peers. Win or lose, or even just a nomination, it means a lot to artists who have worked hard on their music and craft.

Don't care what anybody says, artists love to be recognized for their work. Whether it be from the Grammys, NAACP, Billboard, Juno, s*** even if it's from a mentor, friend, or mother/father it don't matter. For people to act like artists don't care about recognition or praise for their work...why y'all lying man lmao

nobody ever said anything about artists don't care about recognition or praise

but some artists legit just don't care about getting it from certain platforms lol. Recognition from their peers matters more than that.

    Okay personally.

If that's the case, why do y'all feel the need to project your personal feelings about awards onto other artists who do care about them?

Right, but to say Carti can’t be nominated because he’s too niche just isn’t true when the Grammys have no problem nominating other niche artists. He just won’t get nominated because of the style of rap he makes

Traditional Rap should acknowledge the Kendrick’s and Clipse’s and Jay’s and Drake’s and Cole’s of the world

Contemporary Rap should acknowledge the Carti’s and Travis’s and Youngboy’s and Thug’s and etc.

I know, I’m agreeing, I’m just explaining why he wasn’t nominated isn’t because he’s niche, it’s because the Grammys don’t acknowledge the style of rap music he creates

Yeah Grammy's aren't an objective measure of anything and there have been a lot of stinkers awarded over the years. But let's not pretend we wouldn't be proud if a friend or a family member won one. Just like you'd be proud of they had a number one album

Just in general they don’t care for the red carpet or awards the way all these new female acts are willing to bend over for it

Awards are bs and everyone knows but in an industry that’s now more about image than anything, vanity and these women competing for attention is damn near the only thing keeping these award shows alive ngl

So you have no new rapper you think deserved it you just wanted to say they are too good for it ? Man a lot of the newer rappers aren’t Grammy artist level . I miss pop smoke
