I can see what you mean in a sense but id almost make a MBDTF comparison before that one just because for me the album is about the circumstance

I don’t take MMLP as a concept album but as a snapshot of a real time moment of a man in a really unique circumstance. And really using his skills as a writer and confrontational artist to give a picture of everything in that moment. It can almost feel like some kind of fictional thing it’s hard to explain but the album feels very real but also so heightened. The whole “controversy” that he’s reacting to and doubling down on on the album has this strange feeling, like this s*** was important at one time and the world was actually going crazy about this guy. Him dealing with that is just compelling in a real lightning in a bottle way

It is hard to make comparisons to Ye just because the writing and lyrics isn’t as much of a focus for him, and I lowkey think the TLOP concept theories are a little bit overblown but that’s another convo. If Ye was a better rapper he would probably make something like MMLP lyrically, I bring up MBDTF because that was Ye’s back against the wall moment where he was kind of addressing stuff and firing back and working on a high level in the moment

I see your point. I wasn't talking lyrically at all but, more so, in terms of the lore behind the albums.

Both albums, to me, become better when you understand the place in which they come from.

  • I was there.
One of my first album at 13yo. This and 2001 put me into rap basically.

Is there a interesting rap facts thread cause there should be, this amazing

  • The skits on this and 2001 make them impossible to listen too entirely in a lot of situations... these would make me feel uncomfortable around anybody.
Éven though they are goated obv

My opinion on the TLOP thing is lowkey that it’s a borderline made up concept to justify how uneven and inconsistent the album is and it allows the listener to kind of let go of the idea of cohesion and accept it as a more “conflicted” piece

Not to say it’s complete nonsense but kind of like you said, sometimes the way we look at art changes it for us and that concept of conflict is a way of looking at TLOP that makes it make some sense

Not even to nitpick your comparison because it’s valid. But the thing about MMLP in comparison is I feel like even just from listening, you can basically catch up to what’s happening because it’s there in the lyrics. That’s where lyrics come in, not in comparing their lyrical prowess but just the fact that em communicates so much more and so much more clearly and provides the context and framing basically in the music and doesn’t require as much squinting at it to get it imo

    Solid discussion overall.
