Nah one of my buddies has two degrees but was never able to get a job in his field it’s hard out here sometimes
Facts. I have 7 years of experience in my field, a degree in my field, and I got hired for an entirely different role in a industry completely unfamiliar to me
Idk man I couldn’t do it.
Even just a little job can give you some extra cash to play with
I don’t mean to be rude or snappy either, but what is stopping you from going and getting a job? McDonalds will hire anybody with a pulse. I know it’s not the most glorious thing in the world, but everybody starts somewhere, and the more you delay that start, the more you’re hurting yourself down the line. If you have some horrible physical disabilities that’s obviously different, but everyone that is abled body is perfectly capable of putting fries in a bag for a couple hours a week.
nah i hear you
feel like it’s a hard thing to explain propeely without being long winded as hell and typing up an entire essay that nobody wants to read
i think that summing up my situation as a “fear of living/the world” is probably the best way to put it simply. the cycle that i’ve been stuck in since childhood it feels like is: open self up (pause lol) to new experience —> get overwhelmed for reason or another (root cause being general anxiety) —> retreat from world —> start over again once i feel like i’ve been in hiding too long
obviously this cycle would manifest differently depending on the stage of life because the circumstances of life aren’t the same at 6 as they are at 16, and 16 ain’t the same as 26 but the pattern has remained fhe same up to this point in my life
thing about it is, because that “retreat from the world” seems to get longer and longer every time i find myself trapped in that same cycle, it gets harder to come back out of that self imposed isolation due to my fears intensifying because of me seemingly having confirmation that these fears aren’t irrational after all. still haven’t managed to shed the childhood fear that this world is scary, dangerous place that i shouldn’t try to navigate alone i guess
my bad for the late response, hope this makes sense in some way

Makes total sense man, and I understand. Not trying to sound like a condescending mother, but have you tried therapy/medication? I used to be like this (although to a much, much lesser extent) and lexapro really saved me. I never get into that fight or flight anxiety mode anymore.
I know anxiety makes it so everything in your brain tells you something is wrong, but please make an effort to push through it and find true happiness. You deserve it brother

you aren’t coming of any kinda way, don’t even worry about it. we just having a discussion
yeah i’ve been in therapy since late 2018 with the exception of me skipping a year during quarantine) and on meds since march 2018, i’ve only ever been on effexor, prozac, wellbutrin, and zoloft (on this rn) tho. just left from an appointment yesterday actually
i got no problem admitting that sometimes i don’t put my best foot forward with this s*** so i don’t put the onus on anyone but myself during times where i might be feeling that maybe i should have had a greater level of progression by now. sometimes i think that maybe if i had gotten into therapy and whatnot earlier as opposed to when i was just a month shy of turning 20 i wouldn’t feel as if i’m so stuck in my ways, but ruminating on s*** like that is always gonna do you more harm than good. also gotta remind yourself that progress isn’t always gonna necessarily be a linear thing
saw that you asked about therapy too @survival_horror

Progress is progress brother, you should take some pride in the fact that you recognized it was an issue and are working to better yourself, regardless of how long it takes
Well time keeps moving. The sooner you learn that (and like really learn it, and conceptualize it not just be like "well duh lol!!!"), the sooner you can get to building your life up.
One day you'll be in your 40s, working some s*** ass entry level job because your parents won't be around to support you any longer, and youll have basically no credentials from either job hopping between other entry level jobs, or just being unemployed, and you'll wonder how things are so wrong and unfair. You'll notice people your age in crazy positions like CEOs, big time engineers, lawyers, managers in charge of big stuff that get paid really well and have very fulfilled lives, and you'll wonder even more about how this happened and why you couldn't do it.
Then you'll be 60, still working those s***ty jobs, but now you're older and less capable. You may have health issues that need addressed, but you can't address them because you either have poor insurance, or you can't afford to see a Dr. Because your job isn't that lenient about giving you time off when you need it, or you can't afford it, or whatever.
At those points in your life, it's basically too little too late to do anything about it. There's no career program for 50 year olds. You get all that s*** figured out in your 20s or 30s, or you're f***ed. Plain and simple.
I would implore you to go work at a factory so you can see first hand the types of people I'm talking about. People stuck in a cycle of mediocrity and refusing to see a way out. Don't let that be you forever!!!
Are you seriously trying to act like it’s not easy to get a job at McDonald’s?
Yes. Im also saying you should stop being a f***ing prick on the internet and reserve judgement on people you dont know at all. F***wit.
type s***
congrats mane, love to see it
Thank you bro!!!
There was a lot of wasted time in my youth, was probably necessary for the progress toward tho tbh.
Had to get my ass whooped before I learned type s***
My 1st real job was when I was ur age after getting a masters degree
Work boring as s*** tho. Enjoy the jobless times
interesting, I have two friends that fall into each category but with 1 degree each. The software guy just has a linguistics degree too, both employed in these fields
maybe it has to do with area too
He got the communications degree during the 2018? recession. Then he got the software degree and the tech layoffs started happening. So the timing for both was really unfortunate
Bro has all this time and doesn’t even answer questions f*** you
Post that pic of your oven tray w chicken nuggets and hash browns that looked like s*** rq
