I watched 10min dub and sub and honestly I think I might go sub with this I just cannot f***ing stand American dubs, sounds so cheap to me in comparison to the mastery of Japanese seiyuus

Honestly even Lakeith sounds kinda flat to me which is a shame

yeah I'm p hype, with him experimenting with Japanese instruments and all, but I think I'll hold on on listening to it until I'll get to watch the show

I peeped the trailer and it looks dope, I was gonna watch the Japanese version but the English voice actor sounds better, they got a perfect guy

Watched episode 1 yesterday. I'm sorry it wasn't great imo. I'll give the rest of the show a shot because it's made by creators I love.

What didn't work for you?

The English voices are flat, seems like they're trying to cram a lot into one thing too. Like there's robots and magic but people still taken aback that the main is a black dude lmaoo. The music like others said before me is incredible. That being said I'm definitely still going to watch the rest.

Finished. Honestly don’t think I’m a fan of Lesean Thomas’ solo work.
All I’m left with is a “eh, it was Ight” feeling.

I’m happy that he’s introducing more diversity to the anime industry, and opening the door for black creators to work in the anime industry.

But as a complete work, I feel like the main character being black was the only standout thing about this. Just like Canon Busters, this just feel like he threw different aspects of anime he loves into a blender, and sprinkled everything across a premise that was already unique on its own; and we ended up getting something that feels generic and forgettable.

I don’t think anything about this was particular bad. It just felt rather flat. I think this would have been something that stood out much more if it avoided the fantastical elements of the plot, and just made grounded in reality story about about Yasuke.
Something like Vinland Saga. Just like Thorfinn, Yasuke is a historical figure that’s well known enough, while also shrouded in mystery; and this could have lead to something that blended together fiction and historical accuracy.

Gonna check it out in a few hours, I still have my hopes up

Like artistic liberty is one thing but restraint goes a long way for world building
