Its kinda sad that today's kids legit have no idea how huge music superstars were back in those days when there was actually a ton of money being made in the industry

The streaming/internet age doesn't even come close. Drake is pretty much the only one from this era who has it like that

My cousins in Albania thought that 50 cent and Eminem were the biggest gangsters in the world. These dudes were huge outside North America

One of my ex-gf's is Peruvian and her mom is a fan of 50 Cent and she doesn't even like rap or understand much English...lol.

I’m 28 now and back in 2003 my cousins weren’t learning much English at the time and we had Many Men playing every single day that whole summer. They legit had posters of 50 cent up in their room. It was the most wildest s*** ever tbh

Quite a lot of people comparing Travis to 50.
Travis might be big in the US but 50 was big worldwide.

I’m from the UK and our tv/radio/internet was filled with 50 and gunit. We don’t even get Travis McDonald’s order over here 😂

50 had people worldwide buying albums, mixtapes, soundtrack, dvds, shoes, drinks, clothes, videogames, his movie,...

went to egypt in like 2010 and the biggest rapper over there was 50 swear i heard get rich and massacre nearly everywhere i went

50 cent had by far the biggest peak of any rap star, Drake's run as the breakout rap star has been much longer but 50 cent at his peak was something else. Jay Z was never that dominant in mainstream culture, not even Eminem. People comparing 50's run to Travis have no idea what they are talking about.

50 was completely inescapable, the radio, tv, adverts, games, movies... it was something else. The hype for The Massacre album was unreal, I was like 10 years old and still remember it. S*** was nuts.

    I heard about that!

Crazy how so many people from Paterson and Passaic are moving to Clifton.

It had a rep for being White suburbia when I was growing up but that's no longer the case...lol.

Clifton is nicer than either cities so i don't blame folks moving there. I'm already seeing mad Lebanese, Turkish folks from South Paterson moving across the border.

I dunno. I feel it can go both ways.

Hip hop and R&B was also ultra-mainstream in the 2000-2005 era.

Nelly, Eminem, and Usher had Diamond albums. 50 Cent had the best selling album in 2003 and 2005. Prime GTA spread hip hop culture too, especially San Andreas.

Bad Boys 2 and 8 Mile were blockbuster movies. Kanye had one of the biggest songs of the 2000s(Gold Digger).

"Wiggers"(White kids who wore du-rags, baggy jeans, fitted caps, earrings, etc.) were a big phenomena.

But there was more competition with other genres back then too like Rock and Pop. Rock and Pop both died down in the streaming era so Hip Hop does have more of a monopoly on music today.

But Hip Hop was pretty big back then too. 2004 is the only year in history where every number 1 song was from a Hip Hop or R&B artist.

Curtis sold 700k, and ended up around 5m. so he had 3 succesful solo albums, and successful g-unit album and made bunch of rappers go platinum like even tony yayo went platinum.

Summer 2004 was legit nothing but Usher and 50 on the radio back to back all day. GRODT and Confessions

I feel people get 50 was the man back in the day. Nelly is the one who gets downplayed.

summer 04 woulda been Lloyd banks on fire and im so fly. g-unit was still running it

Travis might've surpassed this in 2020. Sony/PlayStation, Fortnite, McDonalds, Nike/Jordan, feel like I'm missing some.

diff is nobody cares about travis Scott. everyone loved 50
