you mean the decade most rap fans call the worst decade of rap? when it was going through such an identity crisis and being commodified and commercialized to the point that one of the GOAT rappers released an album proclaiming hip hop is dead?

I was dying on the hill that he was wrong back around that time and I still am hip hop was transitioning and slowly but surely turning into that great era with drizzy Cole and Kenny

it was a turning point for sure, but imo 2000s not coming close to the quality of music being a released in the 90s or 2010s

you could make the argument the 2000s was overhated or underrated, but it's far from the best decade

og Golden era should be renamed to bronze age cause they look tame compared to 2000s

    agreed

anyone that says the 80's or 90's were better don't rap like that.

There will never be another 1990s for hip hop

If anything, 2010-2016 was the closest we've ever come to recapturing the 90s. There is absolutely nothing like that decade for rap, the more you dig into the more you realize just how f***ing special that era was. Early 2000s were tight but straight up after 2003 the decade went off the rails and by the late 2000s got corny as s***. Late 2000s was and still is the worst era in hip hop history and if the genre is still alive today you can thank Lil Wayne and Kid Cudi for carrying that s*** on their goddamn backs in 2008-2009

That's what made the 2000's great.

Agreed there was a corny wave going on but that caused the underground to make songs against it and it created some of the best underground songs and artists ever created, because of the corny ring tone and crunk s***.

Right on 2010 it culminated to Roc Marciano creating this whole new semi underground semi mainstream era we have going on today. Thanks to artists like Roc Marciano we have labels like Griselda enjoying a good fair amount of success today.

Yeah Roc Marciano wasn't bumping or inspired by anything from the 90s, just Ayatollah and Evidence beats

unironacally some of those artists were better in the 2000's.

Scarface had his Rocafella-ish mainstream run and Bun B and Pimp C blew up even more having solo hit records. And they were great.

And the Houston crazy ass run from 2005.
Gang Start is also my favorite rap group of all time.

    But you proved my point.

both albums are 10/10 so it's really hard to say one is better than the other

but the fix is just a little bit better.. unfortunately the rest of his 00's output wasn't as good

ugk were definitely at their peak during the 90's tho, i agree with that lol

Sorry if I'm getting aggressive @op I truly do respect your opinion but let's not downplay the 90s here

I'm willing to say the 90s and 2000s were both awesome decades and are even perhaps equals in their own ways but y'all can't be serious putting 2000-2009 over 1990-1999 even if the late 90s were a lil corny. 2008-2009 was abysmal

I can respect The Fix opinion but I'm sorry, as much as I love "Trill", "Pimpalation", and especially "Underground Kingz", Ridin' Dirty and Super Tight... are two of the most influential and fantastic albums in rap history

Will concede that "Int'l Players Anthem" is the best UGK song though
