Love hip hop, it's my foundation musically and integral to so much of my life and the lives of many I know and many I'll never meet.
I been seeing threads pop up related to the anniversary and in concern for hip hop's future. I told myself I'd never make more than one thread but this more than powerful enough for an exception (might delete if it doesn't go well though )
So please use this thread to discuss anything hip hop related: artists and songs and albums you wish to shine light on, your concerns or reasons for hope for the future of hip hop, favorite memories associated with hip hop, funny moments, anything...I want all of it here
I'll add as much to OP as possible but I wanted to start with this:
RIP Screw, one of my favorite artists ever. His music and technique take me to a completely different world and inspire me to try to do the same in anything I create in the future.
This tape has his most famous song, the legendary June 27th. Thankfully June 27th (the song) gets a lot of love but never the tape so I wanted to put some shine on it.
Songs like these two (a few years after they came out though) are what got me to start wanting to hear more than what was on the radio.
Also this one of my favorite Lu songs, always puts a smile on my face:
Man I could have a whole thread on Lu alone but I'll leave it with these two and post more later:
One of my favorite albums ever, I'm talking top 15 any genre. Took eight years of running into it here and there and two pivotal moments for it to click but man....
I know this album gets a lot of love but I truly believe it's some of the best of the best music ever made. My whole adulthood has been fraught with danger and life threatening situations and something that a lot of people don't get is that when things are always bad and dangerous there's just a lot of room for some of the funniest and ridiculous s*** you'll ever run into. Just chaos and Danny got that on wax cold with this one.
Love this album and love Ka s/o my dawg @marcusg
These last few years have almost put me in the dirt multiple times and whether I'm up or down in the flow of that, this album is always something I can come back to. The feeling, the exhaustion just makes so much sense to me.
So many of homies were hyped when New Patek dropped, just thinking back on that time makes me smile.
This era so crazy
CLASSIC!!!
So so so so so so so much more that I can post but this just to get jumping so take it for here
FOR MY DAWGS
Man way too many GOATs trying to get em all on the first page
Will add more Wayne songs to this post later
I wish people cherished hip hop more and showed it more grace.
Btwn covid (it doesn't get talked about enough imo, the social component of hip hop is critical so of course a pandemic will be hard on it) and all the artists that have been lost in even just the last five years, it's been hard
How fitting the cover of F&L is inspired by Domu: A Child's Dream. This album single-handedly crafted and reinforced all my interests up until this day. Even down to the god damn gradient laser type colours.
You're doing work, thank you!!
