this makes no sense
We ignore a lot of the trash that came from the 90s because it was very hard to get on if you weren’t talented or up to a certain standard unlike 2010s nigga
the 90s were the last time hip-hop required a minimum of skill and talent to craft tbh. Now it's just people speaking bunch of nonsense over the same trap beats.
Imagine thinking an era with rappers like ...
Biggie, Pac, Jigga, Wu Tang, Nas, DMX, ATQC, Mobb Deep, The Fugees (Lauryn Hill the queen), Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Big L, Big Pun، Black Moon, Dss EFX, AZ, Busta Rhymes, OutKast, UGK, Gang Starr, Cypress Hill, Missy Elliott, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Three 6 Mafia، Tommy Wright III, Warren G, The LOX, Gravediggaz, DJ Quick, Snoop Dogg، Ice Cube, Scarface, The Pharcyde, The Roots, Soulfs Of Mischief, MF DOOM & Redman, Kingpin Skinny Pimp
Is overrated
jesus christ

there's hella trash that was hyped up back then. If music was more accessible, a lot of artists from that era wouldn't be praised.

Eh I can see this

Daaaamn
90’s had Biggie, Pac, Nas, Kast, Wu etc.
But alot of people tend to act like the 90’s were full of Biggie & Nas level rappers.
People also say all the new age rappers do is talk about using d****. Same way you can say that all the 90’s rappers did was talk about selling d****
Niggas let the nostalgia get the best of them. I love 90’s hip-hop but in 10 years us younger cats are gonna be preaching about how Lil Baby, Kendrick, Wayne, Kanye, Drake were the GOAT’s
What the 90’s people say ”you werent there, Nas dropped Illmatic, DMX ran Hip-hop”
Bruh Drake and Wayne both ran Hip-hop for a million years, 50 had the whole world in a choke hold, Kanye created a whole new genre in Hip-hop
We got Cloud rap, concious rap, emo rap, trap, Neo soul etc etc.
I get the sentiment, but they really weren't overrated when you consider the regional scenes outside of East/West Coast (Memphis, Atlanta, New Orleans, Miami) were ahead of the game in many ways, just heavily slept on until recently.
everyone on that list could be in someone‘s top 5 and no one would complain
Cap
no limit
three 6ix
tribe
common
etc
so much good stuff came out in the 90s and there’s plenty of 90s rappers that were arguably better rappers than pac and big

sheeeeesh
Everybody who praises the 90s as the "golden age" and think every rapper in the 90s was amazing probably werent around to hear the trash that got buried because it wasn't good enough to be rememebred
You’re so right. But this argument is old and anyone with common sense knows oldheads are just bias and letting nostalgia blind them. The same s*** these new niggas talk about are the same thing they was talking about back then. Nothings changed. All this “real hip hop” dumbass arguments. Real hip hop is any rapper who’s truly expressing who he is in his bars
10’s more versatile
nah not really, it's a lot of fire from the 90s that gets overlooked and some streaming services be missing a lot of fire 90's albums in general

In terms of just sub genres and styles the 10s got this

Bro people talkin about cloud rap and stuff like that but PM Dawn fathered that style back in the early 90's
Then you got dudes like Camp Lo who arguably fathered that swag kinda rap that dudes like Curren$y and them do
