It's only really a problem when the writers get lost in the sauce and make the a****** main character a self insert/look cool all the time tbh
this is another example of a twitter user having either short term memory or just a lack of knowledge in regards to what they're talking about. edgy protagonists aren't new and i don't think they're in abundance more than they have been previously.
seeing how everyone’s scrambling to find a decent example I’d say this take is wrong
why do mfs think protagonists HAVE to be good people lmao
They don't have to be, but I much prefer it when the protagonist has both a good-heart and flaws on display.
Characters like Walter White, Tony Soprano, Light Yagami, etc. are compelling/interesting to watch but in the end, as a consequence of what they've done unto others, I end up not really caring when tragedy strikes them.
hollyweird loves death, d****, torture, corruption, treachery, evil technology, bad guys winning
Sylvester Stallone made Rocky because he said Hollywood was making all bad guy protagonists and he wanted a throwback guy you can root for and that was back in the 70s
@Elric now do every other refn protag
Elle Fanning Gosling
they're chill

literally came to say this lol
we need another Rocky renaissance

do u think the studios greenlit the dark knight for a 2008 release as a coincidence come on man

?
maybe should revisit neon demon I can’t recall the dynamic of that character
Everybody but Elle was edgy iirc
She kind of adapted but still

Government literally had to intervene with the Hays Code in the 30s cause all the popular protagonists were cop killin gangsters
There are so many shows today that have just normal moral good characters that aren't a******s that this take is so wrong. They're probably only just thinking about two or three specific films and hyper focusing on them
bro prolly just watched ryan gosling movies + american psycho and decided to tweet that
?
The 2007–2008 financial crisis, or Global Financial Crisis (GFC), was a severe worldwide economic crisis that occurred in the early 21st century. It was the most serious financial crisis since the Great Depression (1929). Predatory lending targeting low-income homebuyers,1 excessive risk-taking by global financial institutions,2 and the bursting of the United States housing bubble culminated in a "perfect storm." Mortgage-backed securities (MBS) tied to American real estate, as well as a vast web of derivatives linked to those MBS, collapsed in value. Financial institutions worldwide suffered severe damage,3 reaching a climax with the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers on September 15, 2008, and a subsequent international banking crisis.4
