ASOIAF/GOT brand isn’t very hot right now. I’m sure HOTD s3 will still be popular, but people, especially casual audiences, aren’t exactly chomping at the bit for anything related to the franchise. It has to build that good will back.

And like, things like scale and stakes really can’t be disregarded. It definitely factors in to everything else.

Man I still remember the way people irl were so deflated after the GOT S8 finale

  • I can agree with this tbh. Honestly I feel like this show is the first time they have truly been able to capture GRRM’s tone and feel from his books

It feels like the most faithful adaptation we’ve seen yet

  • fantastic second episode

  • Ig we'll never get see more of sir Arlans adventures with the magical tree trunk

It's based on the Tales of Dunk & Egg novellas which are well, novellas.
They're very short novels and GRRM has only written 3 of them so far so they really only have material for 3 seasons right now. Plus, the episode runtime format works well for the show. It's not an exactly massive world being explored like on the other GOT shows so it doesn't need long episodes.

  • Egg is like the most impressive character so far on this show to me. My mind was blown when I found out the actor playing him is only 11 (he was 10 when the show was filmed). It took me back to when I first saw Bella Ramsey take on the role of Lyanna Mormont as a 12 year-old in her first-ever acting role and how she killed it.

Also, Egg in the series is a lot more fleshed out than he is in the novellas. The novellas read more like a telling of Dunk's tales with Egg chiming in every now and then but the series gives Egg more of a voice and it works to the benefit of the show.

That part of it kinda reeks of the Disney plus marvel/Star Wars shows where they basically make a movie and chop it up into episodes
