that's fine but there's still going to be a general consensus on top tier rappers (Jay-Z, Kanye, Drake, etc) and I personally haven't seen many people put rappers there because of their production

Drake doesn’t deserve to be mentioned with Jay anywhere. His classics aren’t even written by him. But yes I agree

Sometimes I don’t get it with you guys. Any time someone mentions Travis being in their top whatever, it’s mostly based on production. Like yeah his bars are dumb a majority of the time, but people like him, Pharrell , and Kanye help shape the way the beats and sounds communicate the art. Plus all of these opinions are so subjective...if you like explicitly lyrical guys then ofc you don’t think Travis Scott makes the cut, but what about people who make beats? Their top 5 is probably a lot more critical on sound production and creativity when it comes to using the tech

Lmao I'm not big on Drake either but he's already solidified his place in a lot of people's top rappers

But this still applies solely to YOUR top caliber in hip hop. Some people don’t care about what they say, just what it sounds like. I have friends who fw Travis super heavy Bc they make beats. His lyrics are laughable but what he chops up is arguably the best production in the game rn

but he doesnt make his beats so arent u just applauding good beat selection

Rap critics saying it’s money cash hoes. I’m from the hood stupid what type of facts are those?

If you grew up with holes in your zappo toes you’d celebrate the minute you was having dough

He does make his beats. If he has credits it’s because it was probably a workshop, but he surely mixes up his own s***. And honestly a lot of his features have given him creative control over mixing the sound to his liking when he drops in. Like that one joint he had on 21 savages album

If anything I want Drake’s next album to be about his struggles to help the Raptors win the championship while balancing being a father

That’s the lane he needs to stick to rn

Zappos is(or maybe was) an internet shoe distributor.

    Zapatos is Spanish for “shoes”

Thug be saying personal s*** between some of his bars in his songs too

No other rapper brave enough to admit they wanted to f*** their auntie. Thug is as authentic as they get

yeah every now and then. But if he does do that throughout a whole album, no one would be able to say he's not the greatest rapper. Even though if you ask me, he already is

I was just saying the idea of rap being a young mans game needs to die because it can only stunt an artists growth. We should encourage the older more mature rappers like Hov, Royce, Lupe, Aesop Rock, Danny Brown, etc. because they just have so much life and experience to share in their music. The older rap gets its just very obvious good rappers get better with time. They tend to approach certain ideas in a more mature way. Look at Get Out of the Car and Shrunk by Aesop Rock for example, the average young person won’t express the death of a friend and going to therapy that way and that’s ok because that’s what rappers in their late 30s and 40s are here to do.

Biggie rapped about money and hoes like 80% of the time

Rakim just rapped about how good he is and other generic brags 80% of the time
