Saw this last night and it was a mixed bag for me. I feel like this film says nothing worthwhile to warrant its borderline disturbing subject matter. There was no character growth and the pacing was pretty poor. Simon Rex did play his role very well and the supporting cast all do a great job bringing their characters to life though. The screenplay is quite witty too, but that’s really the extent of positives for me

I liked this the least among it, Tangerine and Florida Project but still got a lot out of it. Mikey is a charismatic and entertaining character, he brings chaos with him wherever he goes and can't get out of the way of his own narcissism. I've known people like him and they talk a lot of s*** they can't follow through on.

As always for Baker, the performances were naturalistic and mostly strong throughout the cast. Nash and his family were very, very clearly amateurs but in a good way. My audience was crine when they were on screen beating up Mikey Suzanna Son was excellent as Strawberry. So much energy and s***appeal there, great casting.

The pacing and overall low energy of the film was its biggest issue. I didn't mind the premise at all but it took a little too long to really get to that profoundly uncomfortable, queasy space I wanted it to reach.

When it got there though, I enjoyed it a lot and appreciated Baker's directorial aptitude in the moments where everything else was clicking. The cinematography was great as always with his films, featuring rich colors and film grain that provided a lot of texture and grit.

Not sure what the crossover appeal is for a film like this one, but as someone who who watches way too much p*** and was able to make a kind of frustrated sense of the protagonist, it worked for me.
