It was only divisive when audiences started hearing it was incredible. Same thing happening here and with La La Land.

I disagree. Dunkirk wasn't as well praised as La La Land or Parasite by audiences. I never hear Dunkirk is overrated, but those other two will get the label.

Fair enough. Dunkirk had massively high critical praise and I only really started seeing people hating on Dunkirk when mainstream audiences saw it - and even then most of them went from being like "it's pretty good" to "it's dogshit" in the same way people did with other movies acclaimed like that.

Happens with albums and games too.

All the praise for this and Midsommar never connected with me. I understand folks have subjective experiences, but all the explanations of them never sound completely through.

Midsommar definitely ain’t get this much praise

just finished my second watch through. it’s truly so great because with how they created their multiverse, the continuity issues simply don’t make as big of a deal. there is no need to worry about the destruction or yada yada of one universe.

such a nice movie. i do think it’ll hold a soft spot in my heart for a while.

When he’s begging them all to stop fighting and basically speaking to how we all feel in the world right now

    His whole ā€˜being kind isn’t naive it’s strategic and necessary… it’s how I fight’

When he speaks to jamie lee Curtis auditor, connects with her as a human, she drops the charges, he starts singing and mopping the floor —> evelyn realising what he has done -> her hugging him, him dropping the mop and them embracing

Evelyn finally ā€˜unclenching her fist’ and everything that represents

Seen it 3 times in theatres and last 2 I’ve been thinking I’ll probably hold it together but it really gets me so good and I feel it all

I loveee Evelyn but Waymond really provides the whole emotional anchor for the film and Evelyn’s arc to work around

  • May 20, 2022

1:39 on this is the exact moment Evelyn and waymond hug in the laundromat near the end man is that a beautiful moment musically

All of them are good films. I feel like Dunkirk took the most risk out of them all and it's also is my personal favorite. I've rewatched Parasite the most though. S*** is just too entertaining.

I love Stephanie Hsu’s physicality, posture, physical acting etc in his movie

^ something about this ballerina stance is so nuanced and cool

I find her pretty ā€˜stage production/play’ish in other things I’ve seen her in but I loved her here
