i’m going to add the streams today for The Time drop.

audio stream of The time concerts

and audio stream of the studio group work

This way you don’t have to skip through a lot of s*** (but it is still heavy in the hour time) you already have or don’t want

But you do have to be a bit of audiophile to get into this. i can’t just upload one by one- i’ll be here all day. However i could do timestamps. 😒

HI I’m consulting. You probably are wondering what is this if you are new? It’s a drop thread designed for a prince fan(novice or vet) who doesn’t have much time to search 🔍 & I select bootlegs or recordings of a particular facet of Prince. Then the fam gets to download or stream (little behind the streaming uploads, I’ll fix that ) 😎

Let’s say I’m going to do a female rapper compilation, I would include all the female rappers/poets from paisley park. But I’m not going to drop that let’s move on. It’s just an example. I wouldn’t do that to you. 😳

Tomorrow I will be dropping another volume in the series of Prince. Can you guess who what it is?

Most of the debut lp is written by prince except River Runs Dry by Bobby Z.

The psyche of Prince is a vast and imaginative one. In fact, most people have no clue about a looooot of records basically that are Prince vehicles. Now, a lot of critics miss these lp's because they are out of print and you have to do a little bit of jumping around. I forgive you.

When The Time dissolved Prince was angry that Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis had betrayed him. He felt loyalty was breached and he left that group in the ditch. Only 3 members would be in the group. Jellybean Johnson, Jerome Benton & the replacement keyboardist.

But he saw something in the new keyboardist for the Time who was extremely talented. He said to him, "I'm starting a new group and you are going to be the singer" It was just like that this group was born.

Paul Peterson was from a talented family from MPLS & Prince knew something about this family. He was recruited likely for the Time because he could learn the material extremely quickly and he was a very impressive performer-musician & he had the look. That's something that most people don't pay attention to. If you are a musician who looks like a bum, it's going to be hard for you in Pop Music.

The Family was created out of several new people but the singers would be white. The background vocalist was Wendy's sister -Susannah. (She would almost marry Prince!) It was Prince's way of showcasing his funky psychedelic pop side. What's interesting about it is once again NO ONE arranges/produces/or plays an instrument on the record but Prince. EXCEPT for 2 people. These 2 people being -

Eric Leeds was the brother of tour manager Alan Leeds. He suggested to Prince he would be an excellent addition to the band as a saxophonist. Eric wasn't a fan of Prince just like Alan. In fact he was kinda a jazz snob. This is something people need to understand who doubt Prince. If you saw a poster, you might think this guy could be less talented & too good to be true. Leeds found out instantly that Prince was magical & it was like his kindred musical brother from another mother. Leeds would create way too tracks with Prince in collaboration. He was like one of the only musicians in the room who could take the wrath of the demand of Prince.

Clare Fischer was a LEGEND already arranging strings for so much in black music and a genius musician. One of the great's, prolific composer on piano/keyboards & just one of the best you could ever get in the business. For Prince to get him? It shows you he was thinking ahead WAYYYY ahead on what his evolution of music would be. He understood he wanted orchestral strings and Clare could provide them endlessly.

What do I mean when I say the wrath of Prince? 7 day rehearsals .........many hours a day. Prince wouldn't let you leave for very long, you had a pager. You could go back at any hour to the studio- and you did. When you signed up, that's what you signed up. and that's why he will be talked about on so many levels. As a dancer, singer, songwriter, entertainer, musician, producer, arranger, conceptualist & a visionary. Pardon that interruption & now back to our program.

The mixture of songs is impressively eclectic. The instrumentation of keyboards, synths, piano, bass, guitars, horns, percussion, sound eft, strings, its an infectious mix. You can listen to the demos that I have supplied as well to see the real genius of Prince's vocal harmonies/ad-libs and dynamic vocals that are dimensional. And of course, it includes the standard 'Nothing Compares 2 U' There are so many quirky nuances on this album. You get to hear Prince & Leeds go off & explore more of the brassy jazz side that Prince always wanted to delve into.

The Family broke up little over a year and Prince moved on. The funny thing about the Family, The Time, these groups could tour FOREVER off music that Prince composed mainly on his own! He created literally competition of himself & then walked away from it. Eventually The Time & The Family wanted to reunite after the demise of Paisley Park. Prince wouldn't let them use the name. Because without him, he felt a certain way. So these groups had to rename themselves.

This particular drop you get a lot for your money. You get 2 bootlegs, live Family reunion lp from Bandcamp, plus you get Family reunion projects as well.

The album has a flex filled with shade of everyone that left Prince in the funk brass stab anthem 'Mutiny' Which was a staple of his live shows for many years. Leeds is kinda Maceo-esque on this one with Prince.

As with any Prince project, you can hear him shadowing vocally all over the place in the harmonies. He's kinda like a guiding angel as if he is saying "Don't mess up my s***"

The beautiful psyche strings of Screams of Passion, Prince in high gear with the MPLS sound. Even on a dance number like this he adds these odd little layers of synths to the linn drum sound.

This lp pulsates with a vibrant sense of life & plenty to explore & is a welcome addition to any Prince scholar in the Paisley universe.

And in some ways it hints of what is to come with Eric Leeds. But that's for another drop SOOOOOOON.

Lots of brilliance to discover for any listener. And what a damn shame a lot of Prince fans STILL don't know about this lp because it will make a hell of a deluxe.

    The Family consisted of:

    St. Paul - Vocals, Keyboards
    Susannah Melvoin - Vocals
    Jellybean Johnson - Drums
    Eric Leeds - Saxophone, flute
    Jerome Benton - percussion

    Additional Band Members:
Miko Weaver - Guitar, Background vocals
    Allen Flowers - Bass
    Jonathan Melvoin - Keyboards
    Bill Carrothers - Keyboards
    Wally Safford - Background vocals
    Greg Brooks - Background vocals

I'm A.C. and you should be notified. I always surprise the fam what I drop next.
