Nas is one of the very few hall of famers in rap I just never really got into like that tbh Illmatic is rly good but never was a favorite for me

I like that Danger Mouse remix more than anything on the actual album

Don't think I'll ever think him better than Jay Elec personally. You're also somewhat new to Jay tho right? We'll talk about this again when we both listened to the other some more lol

I highly disagree. I can understand prefering Nas but the skill levels are very similar

Nas is far more versatile.. he contains pretty much everything Jay does and then a lot more.. where is Jay's One Mic? He can't do a record like that.

IWW, Lost Tapes, Stillmatic, God's Son, Life Is Good and King's Disease are all essential listening.. and even that's just a starting point bc he has some essential songs in other projects, classic loosies and features.

It’s a sample that Oanye would later use

Nas never touched me emotionally at all, where's his Better in Tune verse? He can't do that. Also Jay picks beats no rapper would have even considered (Ryuichi Sakamoto, Eternal Sunshine, etc, etc). Nas doesn't have that type of taste and vision or ability to make sth like that work. Couldn't even conceive an Act II.

In lyrics, emotion, musical breath and brilliance Jay is in a different league than Nas for me. It's still a matter of opinion tho

One Love, I Gave You Power, Dance, Nothing Lasts Forever, My Way, You're da Man, Stay off the top of my head, among many others are some very emotional songs that have made grown men tear up.

Listen to his verse here and tell me how he doesn't have emotion in his rapping lol:

He's probably the most authentic sounding rapper ever.. literally every bar he spits is full of passion and sincerity. He doesn't just record for the sake of recording.

Nas' emotion can be more like pure unfiltered anger at times btw. He has some raw af songs that make the crowd go wild. He also has sexy songs and great duets with female R&B singers. Jay doesn't have that range, he has more of an old man energy. Nas is a better and more imaginative storyteller too.

Jay doesn't even have anything as smooth as this

  • Oct 8, 2020

Doesn't have anything as hard as this

Nothing with the same sense of paranoia in his music

I like the og songs better than what Danger Mouse tried to do here and I'm not new to Jay E just Act II songs

if it's a matter of preference then no problem but anything otherwise is lies esp when it comes to comparing illmatic to Jay E's discog

Nas last 2 albums were dope, Nasir and Kings Disease, but where are them Rewind, I Gave You Power type tracks? Been awhile since Nas had a concept track like that
