Feel like this movie was struggling with being a complete satire and a serious movie but knowing Adam Mckay thats his thing, executed much better in his other projects tho. Social commentary was VERY on the nose but thats honestly the whole point, anyone calling it fake deep is way over their heads even a 5th grader can understand the subtext of this movie, it’s meant for everyone to pick up on. I did enjoy it tho and how over the top everything was, Jonah Hills character was hilarious lmao.

That first sentence you said was basically how I was feeling about it. However, I didn't find the comedy funny at all. The ending though was pretty intense

Yeah some of the jokes just felt out of place at times. I was def looking forward to the ending tho I feel like we haven’t had a disaster type movie in a minute.
i wasn't a fan of McKay's last two films. his unconventional editing style comes off extremely obnoxious and tryhard. this one was a little less obnoxious compared to his other stuff, although i didn't really find it neither funny nor clever.
this movie was insane. I never took Adam McKay as more than just the Will Farrell movie guy, but this put him in the upper tier with Nolan, Scorsese, del Toro, and Bong Joon-ho for me.
The whole movie was hilarious and depressing at the same time. The "we don't allow politics in our home" moment really hit me hard. And for such an over the top silly movie, the ending made me cry even though it was extremely predictable
It what???
I feel like most of the messages in this joint are pretty plain text, which I guess could mean I’m missing something
But I think plain subtext does better for this country’s viewers than something like parasite that uses extended metaphors, dualities and s***
SN1: It sucks cuz I feel like if it committed to just one of its "issues", it'd probably be better. Everything stems from the collective ignorance; political division, covid, climate change, celebrities profiting off of all of it while pretending to care, its just hard to depict an entire socio-cultural failure, and this movie does at times hit some of the right notes. I even want to praise it for being a pointed, yet paradoxically ignorant piece that at least gets the conversation started in what a flop it is, but the problem is that it would still profit from being a halfassed attempt whilst being preachy
maybe I shouldve just disregarded all of this and took it as a this is the end with necessary political commentary only bc of the times
this was the first movie i watched in months. thought it wasn't bad, don't think it was anything special either. i liked how "current" the humour was in the movie, but the entire concept seemed a bit lame
Man humanity keep on making all these end if the world mediums through books and games and movies eventually that s*** gon manifest in real life lmao
But yeah I watched this, even though I did pay attention 100% of the time but what I saw was pretty decent lol.
I feel like the movie didnt know if it wanted to be serious or funny or satire. Obviously it's a mix of all that but maybe it would have been better off it it had focused on one area more as another poster said I think. Ending was cool though.
If yall want a really good end of the world movie I definitely recommend Greenland on HBO max. Movie was dope and felt realistic. Maybe ill make a thread if there isnt one
i thought this was pretty funny and a good exhibition of the neuroses of the segment of the creative class that made the film
Apparently jonah hill improvised the whole time according to Jennifer Lawrence, in particular his insults towards her, and throwing the snacks on the floor, dude killed it
Prediction: This is going to get nominated for Best Picture.
Right on the money.
All in all movie was entertaining enough. Shouldn’t be getting all those nominations tho
