Cant even remember the last album with real cultural staying power. lots of albums with build-up and hype prior to drop but very few with the longevity that match the era of the industry prior. the current cultural zeitgeist is to consume as much as possible (as fast as possible), which isn't limited to just music. Its fashion, movies, food, memes etc. so naturally albums that "come and go" are a byproduct of that culture that wants to constantly move on to the next "it" thing. our attention spans are shrinking and the societal pressure to always be at the forefront and not wanting to feel fomo is a threat to how we consume things. Honestly it would be a great topic for a podcast cause you could go on and on about this s***.
That being said, its great how theres a growing movement towards sustainability, buying things that last a long time and consuming mindfully. For example, the shift in public opinion on fast fashion brands like h&m and zara which up until a couple years ago people didnt give a s*** about buying from.
Future Nostalgia
After Hours
But only because they actually kept promoting, dropping music videos and performing for over a year

I agree, having massive chart-topping singles helps too. If we're considering albums that didnt do the constant promotion/public appearance thing, I'd probably have to say blonde.
S*** is still #1 all around the world.
Highest selling album of the year.
If that album “came and went”, then you’d hate to see what that says about your favourite rapper’s album release this year.
Take Easy On Me and My Little Love out and this might be one of the most bland album 2021 gave us if we're being real

Nah, this off.
It still got Oh My God, All Night Parking Interlude and To Be Loved.
Those three plus the two you mentioned still more great songs then CLB had.

If you actually believe that 100k+ people are buying this album every week then you’re a fool
Nobody is actually listening to this album

Yeah bro. Every other fanbase adapted to streaming except for Adele’s right.
It’s 2021 and only her fanbase is playing her s*** off their record player they got from urban outfitters
No ones actually going into their am/Spotify app and clicking on Adele’s album and pressing play.
well it’s a pandemic it’s hard to leave a mark on society during these times
were you in a coma when olivia rodrigo happened

Show me a big artist that’s getting 150k + vinyl sales but can barley do over 50k in streams
The album clearly isn’t as big as the “sales” say it is
well it’s a pandemic it’s hard to leave a mark on society during these times
Ppl only remember it’s a pandemic when it’s artists they like tbh
I think we need to let that cultural impact stuff go in the 2020s
The web is making culture too fragmented to have 1 album really take over.
like that taylor swift album sold hella, yet nobody i know or around has even heard of it.
It’s almost like ppl can’t really be outside
Spider-Man: No Way Home out now.
Literally half my co-workers were talking about it over the last week, and you gotta go to a theater to see it
Comparing theater to an album.
Once CDC puts the word in that “yall niggas good now” in 2023, yall will see a huuuuge difference and realize how much covid actually f***ed up the staying power for a lot of big releases in music.
Album is huge but it clearly doesnt have the cultural significance of 21 or even 25
Don't let anybody tell you you're wrong
Cryyyyyy your heart out
i don’t know who that is
Crazy how so many people on here assume we’re listening to a high school senior sing about prom and getting her drivers license
Yeah streaming has completely ruined how people consume music
All albums come and go now.
Even Christmas came and went this year
