  • i knew this about ADHD & Autism, and their correlation with putting kids in the “gifted” program, but i didn’t know OCD was part of this group until recently. the three comprise a 2-Dimensional spectrum of symptoms, and basically, your diagnosis as any of them is based on which symptoms you experience.

and, of course, each of those three disorders have extremely wide spectrums within themselves as well. Hyperactive/Inattentive/both subtypes for ADHD, Pure Obsession/Perfectionism/Harm/Contamination/Relationship/False Memory/etc subtypes for OCD, and Social/Developmental/Moderate/Broadly Affected ASD

very interesting stuff to learn about

  • Yeah I work with a lot of children and teens that have all 3 it’s very interesting how they overlap

It's the human attempt to map the human brain and therefore it will always be flawed, since we're trying box and label

  • Having ADD and OCD combined is worthy of handing medals out for. Troopers fr

  • and i don’t mean that these should all be the same diagnosis & treated the same

i’m saying that, if i’m understanding correctly, these three fall under a larger umbrella that gets more specific by person through psychological testing, but the lines between the three diagnoses aren’t as clear as most people think they are

I have diagnosed OCD (health variety) and I never thought about this but yeah I can see the overlap

this is so interesting. i have severe ADHD (inattentive subtype) but definitely relate to a lot of symptoms from both ASD & OCD. guess we’re not all that different.

this might be the hyperconnected thinking at work, but i wonder if there’s a connection here to C-PTSD as well. i know there’s a level of overlap between C-PTSD and certain subtypes of OCD.

ADD hasn’t been the term for it since the 90s. it’s all ADHD now, and what was known as ADD is just ADHD (inattentive subtype) because it stands for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, emphasis on the slash.

    Damn

I have cptsd and ocd and adhd And identify heavily with that middle section overlap symptom group for all 3

Don’t really ID with any of the single 2 overlaps as much as the middle alone though

  • Seems like a misinterpretation of how the human mind adapts to modern society

    "Neurotypical" probably doesnt really exist

  • Anyways, im probably some mix of autistic and adhd

Yea a better a***ysis would just create a high dimensional data set of brain activity and use unsupervised clustering to pull out novelties

  • seeing this stuff reminds me of my ex and her struggles

  • Or maybe we use a probablistic graphical network like a random markov field to find relationships between covariates and cluster based on activations 🤓

  • The more they research this s*** the less sense it makes

And of course they still don't recognize Cognitive Disengagement Syndrome as a real thing

It has overlap with inattentive but it's "a distinct syndrome characterized by persistent mental confusion, excessive daydreaming, staring, and mental "fogginess," often accompanied by hypoactivity. Unlike ADHD, it involves a "slow" or "dreamy" presentation rather than hyperactivity, often leading to social withdrawal and academic difficulties due to disengagement from the environment."
