I realized my problem with the album is it feels to gimmicky. I was expecting a mature, more focused drake album after dark lane demo tapes but it’s like he did the total opposite. Dldt was my favorite drake project in a while and the leaks sounded like he was moving in the same direction for the album. He has some cool songs on here but the project as a whole isn’t enjoyable and long as s***.
it's bc of the kanye s*** tbh. he won't come out and say it but he decided to revamp the album and put more rap songs on it that even though i feel are good they pull away from the focus of the album if it originally had any. kinda like what happened to scorpion.
His non-album projects tend to be more mature, slightly riskier attempts (More Life, DLDT), but when it comes to the actual studio albums? He’s looking to dominate sales
Lmao what is more "mature" about DLDT than CLB?
If y'all want mature/geriatric raps then listen to 4:44, which Jay Z made at the tender age of 48
After almost 3 weeks CLB is still in my top 3 Drake albums.
1. TC
2. NWTS / CLB
4. IYRTITL
5. Views/More Life/Scorpion
8. DLDT
9. TML
10. SFG
YOU wanted a mature and focused album, you lost.
I wanted a fun album, I won.
Crazy how life works

Life ain’t fair
CLB is a good album but let's face it DLDT is better if you compare the two albums.

Not at all
I love DLDT, but it is literally leaked tracks and loosies.
Where is the rapping on DLDT like on Champagne Poetry and 7 AM?
Where is the melody like Race My Mind and TSU?
Where is the texture and vocals like Pipe Down and N 2 Deep?

I get what you're saying. But we've been hearing TSU, Race my mind, Love All and Fair trade for months (if not for 1year+).
You've picked the best tracks out of CLB to compare with DLDT, a mixtape. We expected CLB to pack with s*** like NFITI, N2Deep, Race my mind and Pipe down. DLDT though a throw away album, sounds better from top to bottom (needless to say it has a better album cover).
At the end of the day, I love both albums and that's what the artist wanted to give to his fans. let's embrace it.
The problem with this album is it’s not an album. It’s another Mixtape/playlist that’s all over the place sonically and thematically shallow. Last drake release that had a focused sound and direction was nwts. That, TC, and SFG are his most focused releases. Those projects feel like he had a direction and creative vision that was guiding him. I can also say that about IYRTITL as well tbh. He def had a sound he was going for there. Everything else after that has been a weird cluster f*** of ny rap, trap, rnb, and pop. The fact that he can do all that is cool but he’s never going to be able to make an album that makes any sense sonically doing all that s*** at once. You can tell he just goes to the studio, makes songs until he has enough to pick from for a project, slaps a random title and album cover on it and calls it a f***ing day. No vision or direction whatsoever.
That being said the songs still slap because it’s Drake and he’s on autopilot at this point. CLB would make a great mixtape. It’s just a sloppy ass album. The most frustrating part about it is he built so much anticipation for two f***ing years being all cryptic and s*** like he had something big up his sleeve just to deliver a project that could’ve easily been another stop gap release (mixtape/playlist etc)
