Imagine thinking Kendrick and Cole are the ones that set the bar low. Y’all really dumb.
you misread.
the fact that they barely drop music is why the bar is set so low
their projects set the bar higher not lower
First page is all dumb he used Drake as the only example of a rapper NOT taking a hiatus
He’s saying everyone needs to be more like Drake
Yea
But u shouldn't expect niggas that hate ak to actually watch
the off-season took 3 years to drop, the longest he's taken in between any album
now it's almost been another 3 years before the fall off which he keeps hinting is his last album
he's been pretty active with dreamville and features but also seems 1 foot out the door
can let the off season wait slide since he was very prevalent on ROTD3 in 2019 with Under The Sun, Sacrifice, Down Bad, 1993, etc, wasn’t just a quick cameo appearance
and 2020 obviously was a free off year for most
We as a community need to come together and make sure our brothers stop making Akademiks threads on this platform
OP's life is more worth than being OP of akademiks thread
This only proves that music quality is declining in rap
If a genre is so bad that we have to call out to the vets to drop then something is wrong
Akademiks with another trash take more like.
If you think dropping every 2-3 years is too long your brain is fried. I’m not trying to sound f***ed up but people used to wait upwards 5 years for some releases back in the 90s.
Is Frank Ocean taking his time or does he not think he can top Blonde
Peaked with Channel Orange tbh
Peaked with Channel Orange tbh
Never really enjoyed that album personally but I know the writing on there is great
Compromise your artistic message so people only care about your art for 4 hours and I can profit off of it more frequently
Kendrick took 5 years and the same thing happened anyway
i think the reason we haven't seen new a-list rappers emerge lately (who are on the same level as a kendrick cole or drake) is because the bar has been set so low due to kendrick & cole's inactivity
in 2009-2010 when drake, cudi, cole, krit, kendirck, tyler, mac miller etc were coming up, the OGs at the time (ye, hov, wayne, eminem) were still extremely active, which meant the new-comers had a lot to live up to if they wanted to steal any spotlight from the older guys
nowadays guys like baby durk 21 etc have no serious competition
Agreed. the point about the og’s being active in the early 2010s is an important factor that doesn’t get talked about enough
Art takes time. This is only an issue because tiktok and short form content got everybody attention span on the fritz and hungry for more more more now now now

yeah but he still gives off a vibe like he's one foot out the door after this next album
unfortunate cuz IMO he's been the real MVP in the last 5 years
Kendrick took 5 years and the same thing happened anyway
in reality he probably scrapped the OG (multiple times) then made the project we finally got within a year of its release
Drake's the only one whos main focus is dropping music TBH
And Travis
They both dropped almost every year of the 2010s
THE REAL QUESTION IS who's the last rapper that seemed like he had the potential to compete with the top-dogs?
I can't think of anyone besides Chance the Rapper in 2016 (before the big day)
Travis too but he's less bar-focused
Is Frank Ocean taking his time or does he not think he can top Blonde
it’s still no rush for a new frank album if we being completely real
Blonde is still just as relevant as it was back then and still getting the same amount of streams, it’s truly lived through generations

dababy had a real run in 2019-2020 i can’t lie, strictly talking commercial success wise

Bruh it's almost been 10 years
Nah artists should take more time b/n music lowkey the dropping multiple times every year is what's f***ing the mainstream up
