Why is people like Adam 22 so invested in Drake beating Kendrick? 😂.

Why is people like Jay Z so invested in Kendrick beating Drake? 😂

Has anyone ever done a "hometown" show except for Dr. Dre + friends?

And if so, was it touted as like a homecoming show?

    Nope

    Nope

So why is this even an issue? Lol

  • mos def

I said this earlier but you can replace Kendrick with any other rap artist not named Wayne and the outrage would be the same

Kendrick isn’t the root of the problem in this scenario

Yep. That's the criticism people have. Everyone agrees that Kendrick is a great performer and he should definitely have his own moment on the stage. It'd be the same thing if the Superbowl was being held in Toronto and then you chose anyone who wasn't Drake or the Weeknd to do the show. Just seems stupid. This was always going to be the reaction.

Ahh, in terms of live show/presentation. I do think they are comparable

But imo they are on the same level and still thats saying something. Kanye is prob the greatest performer hip hop has ever seen by far and kendrick is right up there esp with mr morale tour.

    @BrainWorms4U

absolutely. even in korea he still knew how to put on a good ass show.

i think kendrick going on tour with Ye during the Yeezus era gave him a crazy level up to.

Dre is the first one iirc and as great of a show and deserved as it was high key set a bad precedent of entitlement for other rappers to perform in their hometown sbs

Drake didn’t turn down a Super Bowl guys be honest 😂.

We really letting these niggas get these hypotheticals off.

The same guy with an ego of a thousand giants turned down the opportunity to be the first solo headling Super Bowl act in hip hop history ?

  • Sep 10, 2024

Also, it's not like Lil Wayne would have been performing to a crowd of NOLA folks. Lets be real about who goes to the super bowl

So do you think Wayne has turned it down?

Wayne peaked in popularity before rappers were getting offered to do the Superbowl. I'd argue anyone who was a superstar from the mid 2010s till now who hasn't done it has very likely been offered but has turned it down.

Especially after the Janet Titty fiasco they’re extra careful with planning the halftime show

Sure Jay has a big say and sway who performs but there’s zero chance the NFL doesn’t at least vet the artists

Knowing Kendrick they were probably impressed with his professionalism in 2022 and couldn’t wait to have him perform again.

Also, is it true that the final pick is in the hands of the host city? Or is that just online talk?

Also, the only thing people are angry at is that Wayne isn't getting to perform at his hometown city. That's all. LA hosts the Superbowl in 2027. Kendrick could easily take that spot.

that’s literally never been a thing though, even when dre did it in 2022 his co-headliners were from NYC and detroit

???? There's very little upside to doing the Superbowl. That's why they still can't get Taylor Swift to do their show.

You have to spend your own money to build your set, you have to spend months rehearsing for a 12-minute performance and if you're already an established star, it does nothing for you exposure-wise. You're stupid if you think Drake, at the peak of his popularity from 2016-2018 didn't get called to do the show. They also make offers to the most popular acts. They get more refusals than acceptances. The year Maroon 5 did the show, they struggled for months to find anyone to do the show.

That's what the press release in 2019 said but it's basically a Roc Nation decision.

The document that stated that is a couple years old so it couldn’t have been fabricated to fit the current narrative to save Hov

That's fair Kendrick and Drake a different type of star than Wayne was at his peak just a different climate

I'd love for Kendrick to bring Wayne out, hoping that happens. Just the hometown has only ever mattered once and I don't like people pretending the choice was Kendrick or Wayne when in reality it was probably Kendrick or Morgan Wallen

Well, they shouldn't have set that precedent and the headliner gets to choose who they bring out. They touted the Dr. Dre performance as a show for the city by a respected figure for the city and people view Wayne now as an OG who is closer to the end of his career so this would have been a good way to give him his flowers. Same way people felt like Usher doing the Superbowl was a good nod.
