Well, they shouldn't have set that precedent and the headliner gets to choose who they bring out. They touted the Dr. Dre performance as a show for the city by a respected figure for the city and people view Wayne now as an OG who is closer to the end of his career so this would have been a good way to give him his flowers. Same way people felt like Usher doing the Superbowl was a good nod.
But there really wasn't a push to have a Vegas artist performing in Vegas last year. Nor did I see anyone complaining that an ATL artist was performing in Vegas.
That's why I don't see the big deal in giving Kendrick his flowers during his biggest year yet.
That's fair Kendrick and Drake a different type of star than Wayne was at his peak just a different climate
I'd love for Kendrick to bring Wayne out, hoping that happens. Just the hometown has only ever mattered once and I don't like people pretending the choice was Kendrick or Wayne when in reality it was probably Kendrick or Morgan Wallen
I agree. I don't put this on Kendrick. It's a great look/move for him and he 100% should have taken the offer if it came up. New Orleans just so happens to be one of the most cultural places in the US and because of who Wayne is, how much he reps NOLA and the fact that he's a legend who is still active, people feel like he should have done it. Also, with legends like Rihanna and Usher playing the last few shows, it feels right for Wayne to get to perform at his hometown (not saying Kendrick isn't a legend in his own right).
Can easily see Drake turning down Jay Z lol he doesn't want a handout from that guy in any shape
I think Drake just hates performing at stadiums, period.

Kendrick bringing out Wayne for Amilli or something would be cool
I'm willing to be Wayne was never even an option. Love him to death but performance wise he is terrible in 2024.
It's a 13-minute performance with months of rehearsal time. Wayne is also a great performer when he isn't exhausted.

Hope some phone calls are made and Wayne gets a guest spot. He's a legend who deserves his flowers while he's here
It's true he shouldn't
I see both sides for sure. The NFL is stuck between a rock and a hard place in this scenario.
If the precedent is set that host cities give the halftime show to hometown hip hop acts then there will be a lot more controversy in the future for more deserving artists (hip hop or not)
Kendrick was simply presented the opportunity and took it as anyone should (if they want)

Wayne don't perform like he used to, pause

That's different and you know it. Which black music legend do you know is from Vegas? And it made sense for Usher to do the Vegas show because he'd just done a legendary Vegas residency and has basically made the place his home.
If there was any thought of bringing Wayne out during this it shouldn't happen now. Looks more like pity than anything

Agreed but suggesting that he can't deliver in a performance that'll last less than 15 minutes (and a performance where he'll have multiple guests) is ridiculous and disingenuous.

I agree but I think he should have been a headliner. Kendrick could have easily performed any other year imo but it is what it is. Folks should move on. I know Kendrick will kill it and that's what anyone should care about.

What if that was always the plan

Thank you for not having an anti-Kendrick bias in this situation like some other ppl

This probably sucks for Kendrick too because he's a huge Wayne fan lol.

Nicki spamming tweets just made that obsolete
Wouldve been cool if it was just fan speculation and then he surprised during the set
Now it just looks lame

Why is people like Jay Z so invested in Kendrick beating Drake? π

Also, is it true that the final pick is in the hands of the host city? Or is that just online talk?
Jay Cicero, president and CEO of the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation and a Super Bowl LIX Host Committee member explained, βIt is the NFLβs decision alone for all entertainment for the Super Bowl. We found out about it at the same time everyone else did this past weekend.β
