Some of the biggest “what ifs” in US history are def Huey Long not getting killed, JFK not getting killed, Nixon not getting impeached/resigning, and Gore winning in 2000. The 2000s election and Bush years were crazy influential and at the time I don’t think people knew just how much that would be a cultural and political pivot even 20 years later

Al Gore inflated the numbers in his little presentation to make a point and get some shine for himself. That heavily fueled that very same conservative ignorance when it came out. People started to feel like it was a scam all together. No, he is definitely at least partly responsible for the current state of ignorance America is in right now.

I don’t know anything of inflating or deflating numbers, but what I do know is he had a point and they didn’t want to hear it. Very much how they still don’t want to hear when they’re wrong. They are responsible enough to admit they messed up so they rather double down than just turn it around. I’ll say it again, gore was needed and he should have ran again.

While it might have been from the good of heart and while you rather have someone who exaggerates the outcome "a bit" (millennia), the reality is that he is the main reason behind the climate skepticism that is rampant today. You might not like it, you might think he did the right thing for the effort of raising awareness, maybe he did! But just like he is responsible for raising the awareness, he also is responsible for the raising of the skepticism and there is no changing that.

Fair, I can see your point and agree as most things are double-edged sword in politics. Regardless though if it wasn’t for awareness, it’d be complete ignorance. The difference now is, it’s willful ignorance as most people have been made aware of what’s going on in the climate and environment. If they choose to not listen to science then they need to choose to take responsibility when their grand kids inherit a filthy planet they can barely breathe on.
