Anyone here seen him live recently? Saw him in philly february 2018 and is easily one of my favorite shows i’ve ever been to. He is unbelievable live and his audience interaction, both going in the crowd and on stage was like i’ve never seen

I was at that show too at voltage. I got up to the front row, by far the best concert I’ve ever been to

Would people feel different if it was Jay E x Nas or Mos Def? Don’t really understand this

No. Any really Jay Elect fan knows that having a big named rapper on your debut is a crutch. Jay Z doesn’t translate with Elects subject matter. He ends up dumbing it die a bit and we want that mysterious jay Elect. Not the one that’s gonna dumb it down so Hov can be able to rap alongside him.

What? It’s not just about having knowledge to spit bars. Elect has visited Africa and other regions of the earth to explore his spirituality. He is very much in tuned with a difference sense of self than Hov that is far removed from the money and braggadocio Hov believes. All I’m saying is real Elect fans know Hov don’t have the same substance and poetics as Elect.

Yes and no. I don’t want a collab album, but I’ll take it. But I do think Mos Def and Nas might be able to fit better.

I think older Hov works better than a younger hov though.

I don’t think people would feel differently with either case.

A collaboration album (essentially) shifts the focus on how good the actual music is to

    1) Who did better on X, Y, and Z tracks

    2) Insinuates that he is no longer capable of creating a project based on his own motivation

    3) Means that he alone is incapable of creating an impact on the culture

Nas not in the same caliber as them if we’re being honest.

But I doubt this is even a collab album more like a OB4CL or whatever. It’s a Rae album but has Ghost all over it.

Jay Elect and Hov can work really well together. I don’t understand the people saying they are incompatible. They’re 3/3 in my book already with Shiny Suit, We Made It, and even Road to Perdition.

Jay Elect had to do this to make the moment more universal and meaningful for a wider audience. Unfortunately him alone dropping an album would just not move the needle much after he squandered (maybe by design) all the excitement around him.

I’m fine with Hov on this but it can’t be a WTT Album where you’re getting both Kanye’s world of luxury art and Jay’s world luxury and capitalism morphed together. This has to be Jay Z coming in and guest appearing in spots within Jay Elect’s themes and sounds. It has to sound like these are jay elects ideas for the music. He has to be the driver. For the album to satisfy the asylum hahaha Jay Elect has to give introspective content and tell his story and Jay Z has to fit into it. It can’t just be unrelated verses that make up an album. The good news is the album’s title implies that it’s gonna be very introspective. In the past jay elect has featured speeches as guest spots for his songs. and they set the tone and open up for a great verse. that’s how I see Hov being used here.

Anyways I’m typing essays because I’m just happy we are getting a f***ing project lmao. This is the realest it’s ever felt. If he doesn’t come through, I’m a whole grown ass man now, and id still be more devastated than ever before hahaha.

And none of those songs are top 10 Jay Electronica. His solo stuff is better.

Have you heard Shiny Suit Theory?

If not, listen. If so, relisten. Jay can get jiggy with esoteric & poetic prose. Don't underestimate his pen. My nigga got the Basquiat dreads for f***s sake

Shut up already, first you INSISTED that the album isn't coming as if you know anything, and now you keep crying about the Hov features over and over again.

Jay E isn't making this album for you the obsessive kid from 2012.
